^The morning after follow-up....
Listening to The Fountain is something of a religious experience for me, and last night was probably one of most enjoyable private listens I have ever had. The pressing sounds unbelievable, even on this ridiculous splatter/haze vinyl. In the foggy darkness of the night, I was transported far away to another realm.
I have been following Clint Mansell's creations ever since his electronic breakbeats stood out for me on the Pi soundtrack back in the late 90's. I know his material is not for everyone, but I find something magical in the mix that hits all the right notes for me. As much as I love Requiem... and Moon, this album is the one I return to the most and strikes the strongest emotional response. Every time I hear the climax of Death Is The Road To Awe, whether in headphones, in my car, within the film, or even from Clint's band performing it live, it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I find it electrifying if not something like pure exultation in music. The screening of the film at MondoCon is fresh in my memory, and I remember sitting there in the dark with my eyes closed while the final piano solo plays over the end credits. What an experience, and I could not be happier with both the event at MondoCon and this beautiful vinyl album they have released.
