@Monster & Static - I couldn't agree more about Shogun Assassin; absolutely essential. I discovered the movie and it's score over Christmas break in 1996 after hearing what I still consider to be the best hip-hop record of all time, Genius' Liquid Swords. For those who don't know, Shogun Assassin is all over that record and serves as the sample base for the vast majority of the production. Killer stuff all 'round.

Enjoying the analogue throb 'n' pulse of this PHV lathe cut...

Does anyone who is more of an expert than I have a view on how lathe cut disks are supposed to sound - I was imagining a sound quality somewhere between a standard 7-inch and a flexi disk in my ignorance, but this sounds pretty sharp & squeaky clean to my ears...?

I have some lathe cut 7" from Joyfulnoise Recordings and they sound by far more worse. The sound quality is absolutely ok on these. The only question: 33rpm or 45rpm????

33rpm I think... at least the two Transmission cuts sound better that way to my ears! ;)

The sound quality is actually great on these... I was surprised it was so great in fact, being my first experience of a lathe cut square 7-inch

He was the east coast vampira counterpart, and one of the original horror hosts. If the campier side of 50s horror culture appeals to you in the least, he's a must.

He's still alive too, 97 years old and probably looks just like his makeup these days. My father saw him walking around in full get up in the city once in the 70s.
