New artwork of H1 is debatable, I think it's ok but did of course change to original art for the case. Have H2 on order as well but will not get any of the others. Took a quick look at the transfer, looking good imo.
I have the 4K they released a year or so ago of the first Halloween so I wasn't too concerned with picking up this new edition. Once there's some comparisons on the transfer I'll see if I need to upgrade. Honestly I've probably bought Halloween too many times over the years to begin with, I need to learn to skip some of them haha.
IMO, the new 4k release is worth it just for the original mono audio track.
It's a shame they've made it so difficult over the years to find a release that has it. To me, it's how Halloween is supposed to sound.

I'm waiting to hear more people discuss this as the "official reviewer" on bluray.com said this which is worrying
Three audio options are available here, with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD, 5.1 DTS-HD MA, and a 2.0 DTS-HD MA, which is listed as "original mono." The latter mix doesn't sound quite right, offering a thinner, tinnier sound. I'm not in possession of a previous release for comparison
I think the 35th anniversary bluray had the original mono track but I could be wrong. It's been a while since I looked at that. I know the 4K I bought doesn't have it. And that's reason to upgrade to SF release but I'm cautiously waiting to see what people think of it before buying it again.

My spooktober challenge/treat is that before the 31st, I plan to chronologically watch every episode of the original

That sounds fun @scojo. I've been meaning to revisit it for a while. There was a period of time where I would watch random episodes of seasons 1-3 to fall asleep. I think I still have those three seasons digitally but I never got around to buying the bluray set that was released a few years ago.

Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up is definitely one of my favorites and while this will be cliché, I'm gonna have to go with the common answer, Time Enough At Last. The first time I saw this as a kid it had an effect on me, I couldn't stop thinking about it for days and how lucky I felt (at the time) that I didn't need glasses. But then my brained wandered to if it happened to me, would I go blind by some random act of fate? Why would this happen? You know how a young mind just asks a million questions.

I might try and do this too, I love TZ with a passion. @inksb the Blu-ray's sets are great, with some really solid commentaries and a lot of isolated scores. I lent season 1 out to someone and desperately need to get it back.

I will have to give 'will the real martian please stand up' a rewatch. Time enough at last is great too.

I recently watched 'the new exhibit' and 'its a good life' both great episodes, and as a record collector I could relate to both at times, for different reasons.

Also watched 'black leather jackets' another great one, which gave me big twin peaks vibes, set in small town America with bikers, and weird shit 😉😅 (would not be at all surprised if lynch took influence from it).

@hatter, I first saw the version of its a good life from the 80s TZ movie when I was just in single digits, was it his brother or sister who had their mouth wished away? that whole section of the movie terrified me big time!

Bezulsqy wrote: Mon Oct 11, 2021 2:31 pm So I wanted to start my new horror quest today. (At least) one movie from each year starting in 1990 up to now in chronological order. Preferably ones that I have not yet seen before.
I am going to watch other movies in between so I am not really sure how this quest will evolve. I have seen so many 70s and 80s horror in the last couple of years and the ones from the 90s and 00s I have mostly seen back then. But a lot of them I also have missed.
I usually do something similar around this time of year @bez, although this year I don’t really have a theme. I just put on a movie that catches my fancy at the time for better or worse.

One movie Ive rewatched this year is Wishmaster. It’s a movie I probably only watched once when it was first released and didn’t particularly care for it. But honestly after the rewatch I didn’t think it was so bad.

Here’s my watching list so far, it’s kinda all over the place but honestly all I want to watch is slashers so I’ve been purposely avoiding watching too many in a row.

1. Return of the Living Dead part 3
2. Just Before Dawn
3. Malignant
4. Wishmaster
5. Warlock
6. Hack-O-Lantern
7. The Blood on Satan’s Claw
8. Nightmare
9. Autopsy of Jane Doe
10. Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies
11. Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2
12. Possum

I don’t know for the life of me why I keep track of the movies I watch in October. It’s not like I stop watching horror movies after October, it’s just something I’ve done for a couple years now.

Half of your list I still haven't seen. I know ScoJo recommended Possum to me for a long time but I still haven't gotten around to it.

I watch horror year round and is probably 60-70% of my normal film intake but my wife and I program the entire month of October with horror films & TV. We will do themes, this year is mostly aquatic based horror but we have been catching up on a lot of new horror as well. Last year we did a week of Paul Naschy films, a week of giallo, a week of modern slashers and a week of classic 80's horror we both love. I always start October with a viewing of Halloween 3 (this year I delayed it due to the 4K release) and we finish with Trick R Treat and Carpenters Halloween.

It's fun and a slight change of pace to how we usually consume movies.

As for what you have watched so far, some absolutely fantastic stuff. Just Before Dawn may be my favorite slasher, RotLD3 is severely underrated and I love it. Warlock and Wishmaster back to back is a bit much lol, I like both but don't know if I could watch them that close to each other. I noticed Possum got added to Shudder so I'll be watching that in the near future.

It’s been a while since I watched Wishmaster so I was kinda surprised at the amount of cameos by some of the great horror legends. Ted Raimi,Robert England, Kane Hodder, Tony Todd and Reggie Bannister to name a few.

Possum is a slow burn full of symbolism and ultimately I feel is a film about mental health. Not sure if I fully understand it yet but it definitely has me thinking

Always one of my favourites as a kid @hatter, I just posted about it recently on twitter. One I also remember really really vividly but I'm not sure it's well-natured-but-on-the-nose metaphor/messaging holds up today, is the episode 'I Am The Night, Color Me Black'. That was the thing I always loved most about TZ when I first discovered it - one week it would be just a really cool/wacky science fiction concept, and another week it would be one of Serling's heavy, socially aware thematic pieces.

Yeah I watch horror all year so I have no clue why I make a list in October. Its not like I share it on social media or anything. This is the first time I shared my list, it’s just something i do. Years in past I will have Themes but this year I didn’t want to think to hard about it so I just watch whatever catches my fancy at the moment. Previous themes I’ve done include 70s horror, Slashers, sequels, modern.

My intention wasn’t to watch Wishmaster at all. I thought I put on warlock but in guess my finger slipped. I decided to stick Wishmaster as I barely remember watching it in the first place. I was probably around 13. It was refreshing to watch a movie with practical effects again. Warlock was a first time watch and I loved it. To me it feels like The Terminator but with Witches.

Wishmaster I like for the exact reason you stated, the practical effects (and the fun cameos!). It's really impressive on that aspect but overall the film kind of falls flat in a few places. I have the whole trilogy on bluray, it was cheap and I was in the same place as you, watched it in my teens and didn't really remember much. I'm glad I picked it up because I'll definitely revisit the first film over the years.

Warlock I should revisit. I watched it when I was really young, enjoyed it and when I revisited it a few years ago it didn't do much for me.

Today’s watch was Children Shouldn’t play with dead things (#13). This is a first time watch for me, being a Bob Clark fan I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to watch this movie. It might just be me but after watching I kinda feel like Sam Raimi must of been a fan. It kinda feels like this movie is a bridge between NOTLD and Evil Dead. I hated most of the characters especially Alan, although I feel that character is meant to be hated. The actor who played Alan, Alan Ormsby is credited for writing and directing Popcorn. Does anybody know if this is true? Looked like he wrote the screenplay for a couple other flicks. Cat People being one.
