how do those 80s DMM sound? I got mode for joe some years ago at a place called "entertain-mart" -- it was an old circuit city repurposed to sell used DVDs, CDs, t shirts, posters, video games, TVs, cell phones, and they had some records. I miss that place. It's a mini storage now.

pretty epic haul! all killer stuff especially the last two!

Thanks @tex I’m happy with them. The DMMs sound pretty good. Although I don’t have another copy to compare, but the music is great that’s for sure. The Sleeper album for me was Waiting by Bobby Hutcherson. The tone of the album is right up my ally right now. The last track Hanging Out (with you) just might be my new summer Jam.

Thanks that is good and I have one or two of his records but never heard that one. Good stuff!

This one came in today. The drums are up on top, very loud and crisp. Shorter's horn sounds awesome, piano sounds good, but I feel like the bass is a little lost in the mix and lacks somewhat in presence and definition. it could be the limitations of my crap gear. It sounds a little buried under the drums.

Blues walk sounds awesome. Six left to go but I am about tapped out and these last ones have been tricky.

Excellent!
I think those SRX releases are a very good investment (musically, sonically and value-wise) if you find them at a somewhat reasonable prices, which you seem to do.

I find the song very accessible and really poppy and I’m shocked as far as I can tell the song has never been sampled. To me that hook can easily be a hook to a monster song. If I only had the skills to produce a track.

I’ve been on a Bobby Hutcherson kick, listening to anything I can find with him playing. At first I checked out the other albums with the same band lineup and with the exception of cirrus all the other albums have a totally different vibe to them.

One track I found was a cover of Maiden Voyage off of the album Happenings. I think it sounds great. He’s credited in playing the “vibes” to me it’s almost as good as the original.

Anyone have any Bobby Hutcherson recommendations?

I‘m not too familiar with the discography of Bobby Hutcherson but I do really like Happenings as an album - and agree, the Maiden Voyage cover is great. And I think The Kicker is a wonderful album, it‘s early Hutcherson (recorded 1963) and a really smooth listening experience.

There is a great sounding, now unfortunately very expensive pressing of Happenings from Music Matters (but guess there are also good sounding pressings for a decent price). And a recent Blue Note Tone Poet release of The Kicker which is very much worth owning.

It’s funny your mentioning Happenings I just picked up a copy. Not a MM, I think it’s a Blue Note 75 pressing so I’m not too sure how it will sound. Hopefully ok. I grabbed a few other classics as well Thelonious Monk & Sonny Rollins and Somethin Else by Cannonball Adderley

I’ll check out The Kicker tonight, I’m looking forward to it. Thanks @chris :)

Nice one chris. One of the ones I need still, killer stuff.

Got a couple of jazz albums today. This is one of those unreleased sets that they shelved for years and released in an ugly sleeve in the late 80s that BN seems to love for the Tone Poet series. I can't hear any real reason they would have discarded it. Pretty solid record, relaxed playing, overall chill vibe. Thinner on the low end presence than many of the other KG masters.

I'm a little frustrated with Blue Note. They still haven't shipped my spring sale order. Everything I ordered was posted as In stock. They've since told me "due to covid delays" they don't have two of the records but gave no ETA just offered to cancel the order which I don't want to do. So it makes me wonder what "Sold out" means as I thought these were going to be kept in print. Maybe sold out really means "out of print"

Went looking for jazz records after a lunch meeting today. They had this Art Farmer / benny Golson jazztet in really sharp condition for cheap. The cover is crispy NM. The deep groove stereo press could sound better. Maybe the sides are a little long. The cymbals and horns could be crisper and clearer. It's a great record with grachan moncur on trombone.

Nice chill record and excellent tone poet treatment, and I guess Anthony williams was only 17? Wild. Imagine your 17 year old self showing up to a studio to be the backbone for this lineup!

That‘s a great album! Hancock was also pretty young, an amazing artist. The Tone Poet is on my wantlist, it was sold out when I did my last TP order.

Agree on the Clubhouse, it‘s a solid album but maybe not top tier, also sound-wise.

Picked this up on the weekend. I didn’t know anything about it. I just liked the cover. When I checked out the back and saw it was produced by Creed Taylor and Kenny Burrell, Donald Byrd and Jimmy Heath all play on the track Afro-Blue it was decided and it came home with me.

This one is great! I feel like I’m a sucker for anything Lee Morgan lately. Also just found out how he died. Crazy story.

I feel like herbie mann doesn't get much love. I saw this mono record with a cool cover and don't remember seeing it before. It was $2 so why not. Pretty chill record, nice background for winding things down.
