Here's to one of the greatest of all time!

As I've not previously, I'm going to listen through all 4x discs of the Mondo box set (I was gifted the records and made my own box to house them...as you do ;-)

@ScoJo, it's a great box set. I was surprised to see that everything from the 2CD Intrada release was included. I think this is one of Mondo's better releases. Surprisingly, the black vinyl LP, though not too bad, is the noisiest in my set.

A small break from Goldsmith to spin another of today's acquisitions. I don't really know anything about this movie I just took a chance on the score because I liked what Dikker did with Body Parts.

I love this one, and the film is kind of amazing- Verhoeven doing a twisted, sexy, surrealistic version of Hitchcock!

The US tangerine dream score was my TD introduction as a kid, and is still a favorite. I remember when the European and much superior cut was finally released here and I got to hear the goldsmith score for the first time it jumped very high in the rankings, I was already a soundtrack nut by then and it took me ages to track down a cd copy for some reason (early days, before I went to wax). To this day, I have a lot of trouble choosing which cut of the film to watch, even though I think the erupean cut is a vastly tighter a more structured film, my nostalgia for renting the VHS and those opening synthy flutes of the TD score pull at the heartstrings something fierce. I can’t think of another example of anything like it, but to have a film with not one, but two completely different yet absolutely stunning scores from opposite spectrums of the film scoring world is pure damn magic.

Ah yes...I believe that particular sub genre is called “De Palma”

(And to think- we only got those two versions simply because of a couple of high, giggly teens in the preview screening.)
I've never seen Legend. Also, what?

@Mateo you’ve never seen Legend? Change that. For real.

Long story short some stoner teens laughed a bit during an early preview and the studio thought the movie needed a shot in the arm with a more “hip” teen enagaging score , so they hired TD to rescore the flick.

Late to the Goldsmith party.

It’s a quintiseestional 80s fantasy film, but in a much more classical tradition than say something like Conan. If you have any taste for fairy tales, you’ll likely dig. It’s ridley Scott, so it’s shot gorgeously.

Now I have seen Extreme Prejudice before. Several times.

As to Legend, I've never been a big fantasy guy as an adult so, after missing it as a kid, it just never really reappeared on my radar. But for the sake of you lads, I'll give it a go on a night off. I think Mrs Sanboval is a fan so that shouldn't be too tough of a sell.
