The US tangerine dream score was my TD introduction as a kid, and is still a favorite. I remember when the European and much superior cut was finally released here and I got to hear the goldsmith score for the first time it jumped very high in the rankings, I was already a soundtrack nut by then and it took me ages to track down a cd copy for some reason (early days, before I went to wax). To this day, I have a lot of trouble choosing which cut of the film to watch, even though I think the erupean cut is a vastly tighter a more structured film, my nostalgia for renting the VHS and those opening synthy flutes of the TD score pull at the heartstrings something fierce. I can’t think of another example of anything like it, but to have a film with not one, but two completely different yet absolutely stunning scores from opposite spectrums of the film scoring world is pure damn magic.
I have been in this business a long time. Now if I don't want to do a show, it's not because I got stage fright. It's because some creature from beyond doesn't want me to do the show. Now gangway.
