I have been following Kirby's The Caretaker project since the late 90's. I feel it's some of his best work, and I highly recommend checking out his full discography. He also has the first of six (!) new albums coming out soon:

Everywhere At The End of Time is the first in a series of six albums by The Caretaker, aka James Leyland Kirby, slowly cataloguing the stages of early onset dementia. Each album will reveal new points of progression, loss and disintegration, progressively falling further and further towards the abyss of complete memory loss and nothingness. Viewing dementia as a series of stages can be a useful way to understand the illness, but it is important to realize that this only provides a rough guide to the progress of the condition. Drawing on a recorded history of 20 years of recollected memories, this is one final journey and study into recreating the progression of dementia through sound. As the first in the series - and despite its typically frayed loop construction, this volume is the most lucid - subsequent instalments will continue to move into faded obscurity and material erosion. Mastered and cut by Andreas Lupo Lubich. Artwork by Ivan Seal.

^Wow, I just had a look at prices on Discogs, and I had no idea all The Caretaker material went for so much money secondhand. I understand the attraction to the project, as it hooked me instantly with the first CD release back in '99, but seeing people pay $100-300 USD for some of the albums is quite incredible.

For those who are curious, if you are into The Shining, especially the ghostly ballroom music, then you really have to check this project out.

Don't remember seeing a choice of colours originally... though I do like the way it highlights the inclusion of the Italian flag on the bottom of the obi. Very neat.

@Spun - Yeah, I have been checking their website every day, and they converted it to the green/red listings today. Hoping to see a few more for sale here soon. The music is really enjoyable. I also like the obi strips too, curious how they chose to brand them with "VHS" logos. Most Japanese VHS tapes I have seen are in clamshells. Were they originally sold with obi strips as well?

I wonder... the old, old Japanese VHS tapes we have at home are kids movies and Studio Ghibli stuff, none of which have anything approaching an OBI, but it's possible they may have done when first bought. Would need research. Looks like those of us who ordered early from Bandcamp have been allocated the 'Red is Dead' colour as opposed to the 'Green Inferno'... I guess what's happening is two variants at 300 each now, so 600 total, as opposed to the 300 total originally suggested (?). In any event, who cares, enough to go around... ;)

I am guessing that all these clever fellas follow the label on Bandcamp, and were notified of the new release when it was posted to the site. I didn't hear about it until it was already sold out. Hoping to see more copies put up for sale soon. :)
