Not sure exactly which label is doing this, but it's the same as the previous 2011 CD reissue, which is pretty awesome.

I have an OG copy of the OST, so skipped on the WW version. But personally pretty stoked for this new pressing, despite the pretty blah cover art.
Odd that they don't know which label is releasing this yet they quote a press release. Also worth noting is that none of this is music original to the film; it is all re-recordings. Whether or not these are new re-recordings or the ones made for and used on the 2011 CD is also unclear. Why can't folks get their hands on the original Carpenter/Howarth music? Why are there so many expanded Carpenter scores out there that are simply Howarth re-recordings?Does JC want too much coin? Are the originals lost? All very interesting.

it's a strange release, the music in there is made of two things :
1- newly recorded renderings of the Morricone music (including recreations of the tracks not used in the film)
2- new performances of the music he produced for the film with John Carpenter

So it looks a litlle bit like the Anthology album from carpenter in the sense that they are new recordings of the AH & JC stuff. But add to that the 'cover' of the Morricone tracks to round up the release.

I'm in. but as Mateo said : Odd.

With this new Thing, I have a DL of the 2011 CD reissue, and this vinyl version has to be the exact same. The cover art and tracklist are totally the same. It would be insane that Howarth would re-record his still pretty recent re-recordings for this vinyl pressing.

"Main Title," "Burn It," "Fuchs" and "To Mac's Shack" are all the JC & Howarth tracks not on the original Morricone OST that are now on this version. I guess it seems they have technically been re-recorded here, but I think this is as close as we're ever going to get to actually owning these few tracks, which are super heavy on the synth burn and pretty awesome.

The Morricone tracks also sound pretty great on this version too. Often more electronic as well.

Anyway, a definite buy for me.

Is that the final art or just a picture of the CD cover that it most closely resembles? This article makes it pretty clear they don't know much about the actual release, tracklist aside.

Terrible art. Thanks for all the details. An odd little release.

Speaking of "new" releases, did anyone pick up a preorder for the Audio Fidelity Blade Runner repress last week?

@Mateo - These are all great questions, and were also the first things that came to mind when I bought that CD years ago. I was surprised to see that they were all re-recordings, but I assumed it was due to the "huge mess" of rights regarding the original music for The Thing. Perhaps we will never know? The JC interview for the Waxwork deluxe release was... underwhelming to say the least.

Indeed. There are other expanded scores like this as well, no? Granted those don't involve a third party like The Thing does Morricone. Still, I'd need to go and look, but I believe there are at least a few other expanded/deluxe/expanded deluxe editions out there that are Howarth re-recordings or, at the very least, Howarth re-recordings of the unused or extended materials.

You guys might remember that ARROW Video announced they were getting into vinyl soundtrack releasing. Theses (from the Mondo newsletter) seems to be the first titles they are releassing (they have advance copies at Mondocon). Personally, I'm really glad they are putting out Caltiki.

Haven't seen the Zero Boys, the score is by Hans Zimmer and Stanley Myers. Caltiki has been released by Arrow Recently. It's a early MARIO BAVA movie. he co-directed, I believe. It's like a sort of ''the BLOB'' with a part of the story in the jungle. Score by Stelvio Cipriani, Carlo Maria Cordio and Fabio Frizzi. I think that one's more to you taste ;)

I enjoyed the movie.

Pieces was their first release actually.

I too have never seen those films but after seeing that Zero Boys is from 1986 then watching the trailer, I'm definitely interested.
