I expect a full report, the only show close to me is that faded red print that’s been circulating around, I keep missing the 4K shows in the city and the only thing near me in the burbs that would have it is the Alamo. Unfortunately the booking guy there is obsessed with 35mm, which I’m normally all on board with, but In this case....meh.

Well, lads, it was, as the kids say, dope. I loved it, warts and all. The sound was pristine. I mean wow. My little local theater was humming with The Goblins; tremendous stuff. The film itself is more revelatory than I've ever seen it. Colorful, nuanced, and crisp (in most places). There are absolutely images and details I'd never seen before. There were also a couple of things that probably weren't intended to be seen (in reflections and the like) that were noticeable now if you were looking. Same with the sound design. It popped like crazy and the moments where it goes dead silent were way starker by contrast than I'd ever experienced before. Again, there were some ridiculously detailed ADR mouth sounds that I can't help but wonder if they were intended to be heard, but, ultimately, it only added to the weirdness. Suspiria, as you all know all too well, is a beautiful cinematic experience. The new print won't let you down. In fact, quite the opposite. See it if you can. Chin, chin!

Yeah, the “uncut Italian print” that no one wants to see...well maybe not no one, but not me. From what I understand of it’s current condition, By the time it gets here at the end of November it’ll be a big pink mess.

@mateo, good to hear! If I get a chance I’m going to jump on it before the blu hits the streets.

Spooky scary

Not really "now", but I've been watching a few more horrors than normal recently. Last night was The Burning. Really fun film (even better score, as most around here will know). Good to see a young "George Costanza". It both deserves but exceeds it's reputation as a poor man's F13.

I also recently watched Creep (2015) and XX, which were both a bit disappointing. It's difficult to get these anthologies right, but I when XX was good, it wasn't good enough to make up for its deficiencies.

Halloween III arrived on blu ray in time for viewing on the 31st. Unfortunately not the Shout Factory one, I don't have a multi region player, or the funds to make one a priority.

Watched the first five episodes of Star Trek Discovery today. Not sure about it at first. But during episode 3 it noticed I wanted to keep watching. Not sure how Star Trek it is. Past year I watched the original series from start to finish. And this new series maybe is too serious. Could use with some tongue-in-cheek. At one point a character from the original series returned: Mudd. It was a nice touch as how they incorporated that.

Also I watched Wheelman because of Spencer's recommendation on Twitter. It was highly enjoyable. It reminded me of Locke (2013) because most of the movie was filmed from inside the car with the Wheelman on the phone. Apart from that they are completely different movies.
Pace was very good. A small movie but well executed. I was entertained. Score didn't stand out that much. It was effective as background but sounded a lot like a lot of other ambient scores. And it had a beautiful older Porsche in it :-)

I am enjoying the new Trek as well. I'm not a hardcore fan of the franchise, but I've watched plenty of the original films, series, and TNG. This is certainly different, an it more like the Abrams films, but No dig it.

Been finally listening to and watching Lore, great stuff, but tonight I’m thinking its satanic panic time.

First up, the underrated “the sentinel”

New Star Trek is flipping fantastic. What is the mirror? Is the guy in Mudds cell a shapeshifter? Why was there loads of series captains names in a background computer screen, if this is a prequel?

Totally into it!! Especially the little pet they have which navigates space time via space mushrooms.
