Not sure what I have gotten myself into with this one, but it's weirdly fun:

But first a little campground horror
You were on a streak here, @Evan. Killing it.

Quick Grizzly tale: I remember it being shown on British tv when I was a small kid, me and my sister were allowed to stay up watching it. It was summertime, dark outside, and we were sat on the sofa by the living room window, curtains closed but window open because of the heat.

Suddenly, during one of the bear attack scenes, a fucking huge grizzly burst through the window, giant claws thrashing away at our young terrified faces and we screamed like hell and scarpered...

Seems my dad (a very large Scottish bear) had spotted a golden opportunity to sneak out of the house and make a timed intrusion while we were engrossed in the on screen carnage.

I'll never forget the film for that reason - screw you, 4DX!!

Ps. I REALLY wanna hear that Myrow ost now.

Sounds like a winner to me! BIG John Scott fan.

This is a universal truth, my friend.

Deaf, Yor is so sweet. I really like the film and I kind of love the score. It's not my usual fare, but it I find it quite compelling.

Xtro - Harry Bromley Davenport
Pure Destructive Records ‎– PDR004
Just arrived this week. Nice to have an affordable copy of this score. My first purchase from PDR and I'm very happy. The vinyl pressings is, overall, fairly quiet. A few ticks and pops that another cleaning may remove. Recommend if anyone is on the fence about this one.

Good to hear, Tim. What a fun album!

I like how PDR have done a near total facsimile of the TER original front sleeve, complete with logo-corner but just replacing with the bird image (is that their own logo?)

Anyway, is encouraging that the first PDR review is a good one, considering the further delights they're offering down the pipe!

I'm really digging this score. I've seen the vinyl going for too much to very reasonable. After listening to my CD copy I knew I had to grab it. I really didn't remember it being this good. And the bonus, another Varese Sarabande added to the collection. :)

^ Nice!

Reminds me....I have to pick up Midnight Run asap.

Now spinning this, which is pretty great. I might be wrong, but don't think I've ever seen it gracing a platter round these parts??

Having just watched both of those in a short period of time I was having the same debate with myself. I think Dracula wins, but it’s a photo finish. Now if someone would please reissue that, I have...maybe the Portuguese pressing? I’m not sure I’ll have to look, but i paid more for it than I should have given its condition.

ScoJo I think that Grizzly experience would traumatized anybody. Often the victim becomes an abuser...I think it is time you set that trap for some other lad. lol

When I posted that Myrow I was thinking out of anybody on here, you might dig the absurdness of it.

Tim good spins...love Xtro and the ninth gate I play regularly. I actually prefer it over Dracula maybe because of the subject matter alone. Kind of odd... choosing thought over actual sound.

A score that outshines its source by an order of magnitude. One of the most interesting scores he ever did, and that’s saying something.

Too bad the film is such a mess, but it does have its moments

Heh heh....when they arrest me, I am SO pointing to this as the motivator for my 'Grizzly-style' rampage! :D

You know I'm gonna have to hunt down that Myrow now...not the first time you've pointed me towards one of his scores on wax that I had no idea existed!

On the whole B.S.Dracula vs 9th Gate thing....for me it goes quite simply like this:
I love both scores equally, but the former is for a massively overrated hammy POS I've always loathed (despite thinking the fx/prod design etc are genius...), and the latter is for a criminally under-praised flick that I adore. I re-watch it on the reg, and have even now convinced myself that the ending is perfect!

There. Got that off my chest. As you were guys.

Ah fuck. You're gonna hate me @Hatter, but.....I bloody love that movie.

Yeah, I know. I need help ;-)

I will say this though - (and I'm definitely not trying to convince anyone otherwise...) - but I showed my 16mm print of this to a decent crowd a few years back, and that shit was SO much more fun on a big screen with beer and company.

Just sayin' like.

Fred Myrow: Blue Angels

This is a completely schizophrenic soundtrack...all over the place. Some good bits...bad bits...and tracks that make you wonder why you even listen to soundtracks.
Just looked this up - sadly no copies around just now. Will add to my watch list.

A couple interesting notes though. The title song has vocals by Michael Nesmith! The lyrics for it (and a couple of others which he also sings) are by Pete Ivers, co-writer of 'In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)'!

And the Discogs entry concludes with these sortof puzzling words....

'Threshold: The Blue Angels Experience
Music from the movie, specially adapted for album concept.'

Roger wilco!

I've actually got the movie on YT in the background just now while I do some photoshop work, haha... it's a documentary about jet formation flying (not the Iron-Eagle style action thriller that the LP sleeve would have you imagine...)

I do like me a good 70s daredevil/stunt/madmen documentary!

I would like to own Dracula too. Kilar's Portrait of a lady has some fine moments too.
