Mateo - It really is such an incredible one.
I remember when I first saw the ninth gate in the theater...the score really stuck with me. I liked the film but I thought Polanski made an error casting Depp. He just seemed too mentally boyish and unfocused for such a seeker. Maybe it was just the star quality bothering me. like the Tom Hanks syndrome for me. I did revisit the film recently and it did not seem to bother me anymore. Anyway I agree my lazy ass should post more!

Nice spin Evan, I'm glad Silva Screen decided to drop The Ninth Gate on a black vinyl...such a killer release!

@Evan - Agreed on both counts! For a movie thathat almost completely falls apart at the end, I have gotten a lot of repeated enjoyment from it.

@BPW - Good call on the black wax. I was thrilled to see it, too.

Been quite busy lately, away with work etc.
BUT today it's time for some quality time - spinning, sipping and watching (so be prepared for some more posts on the respective subjects ;) ).

Kicking it off with a non-score.

Afternoon, gents. Great to see all the table time all around.

'64 Ortolani orchestra brass with some intense military/war themes, almost menacing, but chiller vibes sneak in with the many romantic themes. Found a minty stereo pressing at my local shop and it sounds great.

I think Silva Screen originally were set to release a fire swirl version of ninth gate but due to problems it was scrapped. I think tex had one....but I could be wrong as usual.

@Evan-I think you're right. I believe they were scrapped and discounted. I think Texas posted it at one point.

@ChrisMcQueen007-Nice Television spin Chris. It's too bad the band only had a couple of albums around this period...such a powerful release!

Initially there was a coloured variant next to the black. Because of issues with the coloured variant they did sell it through their website with the message that there was a big chance of defects and bad sounds and that they don't accept exchange request for it.

From discogs:
Limited Edition - DLP on "Flame" colored vinyl. Initial pressing of 1500, originally slated for RSD 2016 release date. Due to a pressing error, only 500 were released for sale.

Description on potential pressing issue for Flame version, per SilvaScreen -
https://silvascreenmusic.greedbag.com/b ... ame-vinyl/
"These pressings may have a few pits on the surface of the vinyl, which are audible when played. As we cannot guarantee the audio quality of this pressing, we have reduced the price accordingly..."

Cipriani's finest! damn, that thing is funky...

had this on my want list for a while but i have never actually heard it. after getting the reissue i know why people are after it so much, haha! probably the best Cipriani score i have ever heard.

the reissue is fantastic. great fold out cover with good liners plus the quality of the pressing is very nice. highly recommended...

I just got that one on Friday! Amazon had it for $21 so I did a blind buy. Definitely funky. I think I prefer Tentacles, but this one is good too when I'm in the mood for something of that particular sound.
