Re: Alien,

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that with this weeks 4/26 being on a Wednesday maybe we'll get that release, although given Mo's comments on the AMA it sounds like maybe they are a ways off. I guess we'll all know if a few hours when the newsletter goes out anyway.

Either way, that 4 LP expanded is a must.

Was thinking the very same myself about Alien. But with Record Store Days just gone my wallet could do with a rest!

Now seeing the email it looks safe to assume that there will be at least 1 thing Alien related announced!

It would be nice if the Collider article included the tracklisting. Y'know, if it's not too much trouble? Some people actually listen to these things. Although they don't have much info on the vinyl beyond "180g colored" so some record framer is probably miffed about that. Where's LazyBen when you need him?

That CD set has so much music I'm sure that its probably spread out over all the discs.

Probably the first is the original score as presented on the first half of the disc, second disc the restored cues maybe, then the original LP tracks for disc 3 and then the alternate tracks from the second half of disc 2 on LP 4?

I'd bet that the 2 Lp may cut the rescored/alternate, sections from the respective discs, or maybe one disc with the expanded and the second the original LP tracks...i guess we'll see tomorrow.

Love that it's timed, no worries there. As much as I'd love a matching set with Aliens and Prometheus with the Eng sleeves, the 4LP is a must. (also...sorry to be that guy BUT...the Alien on Eng's cover for this looks too much like the mature ones in Aliens...doesn't have the smooth carapace the Big Chap has)

Ahh, i was close, that organization makes sense though.

Someone on twitter is making the same noise I am about the cover...oh pedantic geekism...i try to avoid it most of the time.

I love that the sleeves have the title evolving the way the credits do, very nice design element. I've the shirt they did last year from the first image, not sure if i'll do the last one they are going this year (would totally do it for the second though, that face hugger design is great)

Thanks for the info, NMA and Hatter. That is appreciated. Credit to the Mondo crew for another timed release and even though $75 is a lot of dimp, I think we all know this could easily have been priced much higher. That said, the art leaves me pretty flat and the lack of a black version is, as ever, disappointing. Plus, not that it really matters, but hyping the release without a mention of the actual songs on the records is just bananas. Kind of leaves a sour taste. I don't know. Probably just woke up on the wrong side of the hypersleep chamber this morning.

I like the art, i liked the posters they did like this a while back where the album was first teased (in the credits, real tiny, someone on here found it. can't remember or i'd give proper credit). that being said, I liked the green variant better as it felt more inline with the film, but the red accenting on some of those panels is gorgeous.

I remember all of that well. Good times.

I just might buy both version. because the 4LP is a must, but the 2LP has the Kilian Eng art to complete the set with Aliens and Prometheus, you know. And my mental issues makes me want a complete set. With this and Pilotpriest next friday, I think all my expenses for this coming paycheck are done.

To verify, the 4-LP music is probably the same as the 2-CD release from 2007, right?

Looks that way, yes. but it looks like it's organized a little differently, with the second half of both discs relegated to the 4th LP (the rescored tracks and alternate cues) and the first half of disc one being the first 2 LPs, and the original LP (which was the first half of disc 2) being the 3rd Lp.

If you look at the track listing on the Intrada disc and Mondo's response on twitter, I'm thinking it will be like this:

LP 1 and LP2 - Complete Original Score

Main Title
Hyper Sleep
The Landing
The Terrain
The Craft
The Passage
The Skeleton
A New Face
Hanging On
The Lab
Drop Out
Nothing To Say
Cat Nip
Here Kitty
The Shaft
It's A Droid
Parker's Death
The Eggs
Sleepy Alien
To Sleep
The Cupboard
Out The Door

LP 3 - Original 1979 LP

Main Title
The Face Hugger
Breakaway
Acid Test
The Landing
The Droid
The Recovery
The Alien Planet
The Shaft
End Title

Lp 4 - Rescored?Alternate Cues AND Bonus tracks

The Rescored Alternate Cues
Main Title
Hyper Sleep
The Terrain
The Skeleton
Hanging On
The Cupboard
Out The Door

Bonus tracks
Main Title (Film Version)
The Skeleton (Alternate Take)
The Passage (Demonstration Excerpt)
Hanging On (Demonstration Excerpt)
Parker's Death (Demonstration Excerpt)
It's A Droid (Unused Inserts)
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Source)

Won't know for sure without a full track listing, but that seems to be what is going on.

Hatter, you're doing a yeoman's labor today. That is a sensible tracklist and seeing it all laid out like that makes me excited again for this release. Mondo should have you on the payroll.

i was also too lazy to look at discogs...

so it was handy to see that they just didn't spread the original LP out over 4 LPs :)

haha, thanks.

I actually started typing it while reading the trackless form my iPod until i realized that discogs was probably a less time consuming source for information that will be crystal clear in less than 24 hours. Also in between disc one and disc two on my iPod is a bootleg i must have gotten years ago (i think its a laser disc rip or something, not even on discogs) and i always accidentally hit that when i'm listening to it on the train.

@Hatter - There was an isolated score track on the first DVD release, and probably on a laser disc as well. I had ripped that myself from the DVD for listening many years before the expanded 2CD on Intrada came out. I would guess you might have a similar recording.

I have to say my OCD is burning brightly between these two different versions. I am feeling all the various reasons you guys have already listed: Kilian Eng consistent art theme wants, but the big chap profile is wrong, not feeling the Stout artwork, but want the 4LP, want black vinyl to match my copies of Aliens and Prometheus. Arghh....

Also, would love to see Mondo release Alien^3 and Rez.

I wish they would keep Stout away from the record art. While his sleeves aren't too bad, that cover is just too goddamn busy and I don't care for the color scheme. It's all about the music though and my obsession with Alien with make me get both versions.

Here I am! Fucking hipsters....

I'm probably going to buy one of these despite being on record as not a huge Goldsmith fan as I do like this score, not quite sure whether to go 2lp or 4lp yet, I can't say I like either set of artwork so that's not really helping...
