Image After several failed attempts at sleep last night, I surrendered to restlessness and took this to a local park on the Puget Sound. Listening, I watched the Sun rise behind me in the reflecting water. Kind of made me miss drugs.

Well, the good ones anyway.

A buck a pop at a small record fair I happened upon this past weekend. These regularly go for $10-20 depending on condition (heck, I've never even seen a copy of One before). Bob James rules. He's most famous for the theme song to Taxi, but he's played with almost everyone and produced, arraneed, or engineered everyone else. He also has the distinction of being one of the most, if not the most, illegally sampled artists of all time. Funky and smooth. Not bad for $3.

Again, never heard of Bob James. I do feel stupid sometimes when reading and viewing what people post on this board. My soundtrack (and score related) knowledge is still in its baby phase.
Belgian alternative music however... that is the stuff I do know :-)

Anyways, great looking tapes! But how do they still sound?

Good question. I've only listened to One so far, but it sounds darn good. These tapes look almost unplayed so I'm probably getting as much out of them as can be expected. They are funky gems.

I have a question for my fellow STBC tape enthusiasts: Have any of you ever replaced a missing pressure pad in a cassette? I have a few 80s soundtracks that are surprisingly missing pressure pads. I got them for pennies and the rest of the tape looks fantastic. Curious what materials or methods anyone has used.

I haven't replaced just a pressure pad, but I've had to replace entire cassette cartridges. The ones I've had to replace have been the pressed cartridges. I'm glad all of the new cassettes released by the labels that frequent this place have the five screws in them. I've never had any problem with them.

I think those old Columbia releases were all pressed cartridges. I don't know if I would bother with the hassle of trying to just replace the pressure pad. I would just crack the case and replace the tape in a screw case from a blank tape.

@deaf-

It really is quite excellent, familiar flavours yet a unique blend, memorable tunes and very pleasing textures. I like the sleeve notes by Maine, always enjoy hearing about someone taking a laborious, involved approach to process of creating their music. SOOC are on a great streak!

Thanks for the kind words @Bez, Deaf & ScoJo... great to hear the releases are being enjoyed.

Speaking of which.... after the black & gold MAINE IV tape sold out we had a chance to do a re-stock in alternative white and gold (secretly pleased as this was one option that we had in mind from the beginning).

These have just arrived TODAY.

This custom-made exclusive variant currently available only from our Bandcamp:

Seconded!

And really well put together not just a selection of tracks, one of the best mixes in general I've listened to in a long time, even with its epic proportions.

One of the most listened to soundtracks of my youth. In truth, back then I had this on CD, but I just couldn't pass up to double down on nostalgia when I came across this still sealed beauty for $3.

Full agreed, easily the best BGM/VGM mix I have heard. It sounds like a lot of effort and love went into creating it. I have a couple friends that are really into video game music that need to hear it.

@Mateo mentioned these bootleg horror compilation tapes in a separate thread:

They are also programmed well, and worth your time if found for a few bucks.
