I'm sure this release will filter to retail, all the usual suspects will get stock. Once the fever passes, the world will turn to other material gains, ebayers will die, "listened to once" discoggers will provide, and we will all move on....happy with the thought........ this will happen again. Major release drops eh?

Why'd you skip out on the "snow" variant, Chandler?[/quote]

It would still amount to USD 90 in all and that's still too much when it's not really a holy grail for me...

One FB Guy nails it:
It will be interesting to see if all 7 copies are sold, or become "unavailable". No one knows if these even exist with said ebayer. Ebay is so full of promises, let's not assume WW won't deal with these clowns.

Thanks for the Transmission heads-up, deaf, I wasn't able to sit at the PC when this dropped so I thought I'd missed it completely. I just hope the flippers get harpooned....

Was it widely known today was the sale date? I had no idea it was going on sale today until I got home from work to find out that even the standard edition is gone. Particularly disturbing as I'm a subscriber. If i missed something, that's on me; but if the 20 minute warning was the first notice it going up today I'm definitely bothered. I'm not going to spew hate or anything, just curious who to blame in my own head. I guess I'll suck it up and buy it from one of the distros.

It does show what I know, because as people were debating the deluxe and the demand I thought there was no way a standard issue would sell out quickly anymore. Has any of the releases ever sold out completely like this?

Waxwork has just announced a repress coming "later this year" on all their social media platforms. No further details offered.

It was announced last week on social media that said on sale next week. Then yesterday (sunday) they posted it would go on "preorder" tomorrow (Monday). I received the on sale email about half hour after it went online and already made my purchases.

i bought a deluxe this morning when my sub email came.....didn't grab the snow because I stupidly thought that the regular wouldn't sell out. Thankfully LITA still seems to have some regular as of 7PM EST and I grabbed one because I had to. I'm now wondering what kind of clusterfuck is potentially in store for Evil Dead 2.

I doubt that even approaches this level of insanity. I don't think that property is as popular as The Thing or F13.

thanks for the response @monster. I did find the tweet I missed or ignored because you had to click on a link and i probably figured it was just a description, so it's on me. though I do still wish there was more advance notice (like static club) but it is what it is and a sellout is a rarity.
Thanks to deaf i ordered one from THD so it should be all good.

Sigh, guess I'll wait for the retail version and hope that it isn't $90 up here in Canada like The Warriors is, which I still want and haven't picked up due to the cost of Waxwork releases in Canada.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I thought this release might have a very large response. Selling out 1,500 deluxe copies is no joke, but for many (myself included), this is indeed our favorite horror film of all time -- yes, even above Evil Dead 2. ;)

In my opinion, the score itself is an integral part of the experience. I was fortunate to catch a digital screening of the film a year or two ago, and when amplified, those minimal synths just seep right into your brain. Some of the tracks ratchet up the anxiety and paranoia to almost unbearable levels. I have seen the film more times than any other horror film, but every viewing is an enjoyable experience. Don't even get me started on the practical effects -- "too wet"? BS!

I do wish this was an expanded edition, but given the situation with Carpenter adding his own cues, it might be difficult to "resolve" such a licensing situation effectively. Ah well, I think it might be fun to create a custom handmade "lost tape" of the expanded bootleg album... eh, @ScoJo?

Hear hear, Deaf. Well said. Hopefully the repress they announced today will satisfy those who were unable to get the copy they wanted at the initial drop. I think it's okay (and interesting) to ask questions about how releases like this one come about and room in any levelheaded discussion for constructive criticism (even at a forum like STBC which was started by record labels and that has them as contributing participants). I think the most important Thing (see what I did there?) is that people have an opportunity to get this music on their turntables (a lot of us for the first time) and that's pretty awesome. If nothing else, it was fun to have everyone in here bullshitting about records and scores and Carpenter and Morricone all day.

i am a little disappointed as getting an email like 10 minutes before a record goes on sale is not a early bird announcement for me. it is rather a last minute announcement. there's people that don't sit in front of the computer all day. first big pile of bullshit.

also $70 for the deluxe version is a little retarded if you ask me. it means you pay $38 dollars for a slipcase and a little booklet? second big pile of bullshit.

i am no sophisticated mathematician but this sums up to be a very big pile of bullshit.

i rather donate $38 to the poor third world people...

***edit***
have donated $60 dollars now and it feels great. rather do this than support this monkey business

All I can say it has been an amusing and interesting experience when reading all of this again. It has been a while since a drop like this happened.
For me one thing does suck. I am thinking of passing on Contraband because that means another 50 euro for 1 record on top of the 115 euro for the 1 record of last night.
115 euro. Yes, typing this again makes it sting a little more. It isn't even from Japan or comes with its little 45 friend....

It certainly has, Bez. It's been a long time since I've seen a reaction like this to a drop on here. The reaction on other social media is 10x worse (one guy hilariously asked if the repress could be a different variant so a third one was available to those who already had both! WT...).

I am concerned at the cost of releases to be honest, without being too moany. I can live without them, so I have some perspective, but at what point did £35 for a single LP become the norm? I bought F13 Part II for about £18, and that wasn't so long ago.

I don't know if much can be done about flipping - I guess some sort of cap is most obvious. I personally don't feel the need to ever have more than 1 copy of a record if the musical content is identical, but others legitimately do. Also, the labels might think they're shooting themselves in the foot if they limit to 1 per household and it never sells out. If they're good to repress of The Thing, I'd hope that everyone who wants one can get one, in the long run.
