Same here, lads. Same here. That VHS might as well have been gold bricks to me. We are itching to begin our rewatch of TP now that the new series has a start date and were fixing to get into them on Friday night, when the intrepid Lady Sanboval uncovered that Agent Cooper cruises into town on February 24th so that has become our new target date. It's going to be grand.

Enjoy the new series Mateo! I won't be able to catch it from the get go because I don't have Showtime, and I'm getting rid of the cable this week. I'll have to pick it up on Netflix or something like that in the future. Hopefully, it's a solid companion to the original.

Showtime just had a marathon on yesterday and would tease the new season between episodes. One teaser was David Lynch as Gordon eating a donut.

Of potential interest to your newish televisual situation, if you are an Amazon Prime or Hulu subscriber you can get Showtime through each of them for an additional $8/month with the first month free. The service is cancel anytime so there's no contract involved. I looked into this just recently as I don't have cable either.

Saw Lost Highway in the theater last night (props to Drafthouse!). Forgot how good it is-- story of a sociopath! I didn't know that the OJ trial was on Lynch's mind when he made it. Specifically the concept of how the mind acts to "protect" itself from the knowledge of having committed a violent crime.

I wasn't old enough to understand the movie when it came out in the 90s. Glad I saw it again in a proper setting.

Not that I necessarily "got it right", but it had tangible, graspable elements for my brain to hold on to and chew. Mulholland Drive, which I love just as much (if not even more), left me baffled in the best of ways.

Ahh, big screen is the only way to fly with Lost Highway. Kudos, man.

On it's theatrical release, it was only playing at an arts cinema about an hour away, so I roped a pal in and we drove up for it. He was just in the midst of a nasty divorce, I was myself in a wildly destructive liason which was reaching combustion point.

We got fully baked in the cafe before the flick, and then it was showtime.

The movie finished around midnight, and we drove home chasing the broken centre line on deserted roads, in complete and utter silence.

Just got back from Atomic with Mogwai playing the soundtrack live which was quite intense. I've wussed out in my old age and started wearing earplugs and it was still pretty loud with them in (last time I saw Mogwai my ears rang for three days afterwards, it used to be only a day, hence the earplugs).

Sounds like good times. I had the 3-day ring after Loop last year, in a 2hundred capacity club room (ouch) That wasn't remotely amusing, convinced as I was at the time that it was going to be 'radio static at bedtime' for me from that point on.

Ben, you sweet lazy bastard! Nice to see you. On topic, I have the same problem with The Ringing . I've noticed it lasting longer for awhile now, but around the time I saw Goblin/Secret Chiefs 3, it became less tolerable; downright annoying actually. That said, I still struggle to get the full experience with earplugs and find myself taking them in and out over the course of a loud show. Guess I haven't found a happy medium yet.

I haven't gone to shows without earplugs in forever, as I have an inner ear disorder, but I used to be disappointed by full foam ear plugs for shows that were in-between quiet/too loud. The dubs seem to hit that sweet spot for now, and I'm really happy with them. Not too expensive either -- about $20 on amazon.com

Those dubs are okay but I think not good enough for a really loud show. I went to ACL Festival, and the volume was negligently loud. My ears haven't stopped ringing since October, and I had dubs in my ears the whole time. Been going to shows for 20 years but that was the loudest by a big margin. I've noticed movie theaters are crazy loud these days too. I think the younger generation is going to be super deaf when they get older.
