Goldsmith's Alien finally officially confirmed on the obi for Gremlins, looks like they may have originally planned for it for earlier as it says currently available, so maybe it will be in the first crop of releases next year.

Would love a poltergeist 2 reissue from them to go with the first one as well, some really great electronic work in that one from JG, and that first track "The Power" ranks as one of my all time favorite cuts of his.

Awesome. Obviously I love Alien even though I desecrated the original haha. I'll be stoked to have that.

Just a heads up on Gremlins. I LOVE the printing on this release and I had to try the water reveal. It works really well and dries pretty good but I think the paper is a little thin and maybe not protectively coated quite enough for many repeated wettings. Once dry the paper is lightly wavy. Not as bad as dropping a novel in the bathtub or something but subtly noticeable after a first time. I kind of wish I'd bought two but thats just OCD me. This packaging is wonderful and gets my vote for best of the year. Figured some of you would want to know before trying it out.

Re: Alien

I hope Mondo continues using the same art design that they used for the Aliens and Prometheus albums. It would be neat to have the entire series like that, including Alien^3 and Resurrection. I love Ripley's Theme from the latter.

@mateo -

Woah man. You've always been something of a mind-blowing iconoclast, with dangerously individualistic tendencies ....

but LOVE that movie?!

I doff my cap to you sir. In a less-enlightened age (ie in about 2 months from now) you would have been publically flogged and had your video library card torn up for such wilful provocation. Fair play, mang. Fair fuckin play.

And in the interests of full disclosure.....I've been known to profess deep affection (bordering on love, perhaps) for Alien Cubed. And have been heard to whisper, with a demonic glint in my eye, that I have some >aherm< problems with Aliens. (So no slouch in the gadfly department myself.)

There. I said it.

Ha ha!

Are we all agreed that prometheus lies at the bottom of the pile, while there are things about the film that I love, there are also plenty that I don't.

Bring on that prometheus 2 movie next year

I like prometheus more than 3 and resurrection....I want to like those two more than i do, because both directors are among my favorites, although both suffered at the studio's hands A LOT, so there's that.

That being said...resurrection has Brad Dourif, who falls into the same category as Tom Atkins for me. i.e Movies without those actors may be excellent in every way, but are poorer for their absence nonetheless.

My only real problem with any of the Alien movies is probably the really bad CGI swimming Xenomorphs in Resurrection. Even at the time of release I wished they could have done practical effects for those scenes. I also have some love for the AvP series but I also have a Xenomorph tattoed on my leg so I might be a hair biased.

As for Prometheus I could look past the amazing stupidity of the characters as I thought the movie was visually stunning. It never bored me and I look forward to the next even if it seems to put the Alien movie that Sigourney and Michael Biehn want to do on hold.

I'm anxiously awaiting Aliens VS Killer Klowns!

I like them all.
My main problem with prometheus was the casting and acting, some of the plot points weren't so great for me either. For example, the whole Peter wayland secretly not dead, along with guy pearce's hammy 'old man' acting I thought was a bit rubbish :D and the green holograms running down the corridor.

I thought resurrection with its dark, whacky, slightly comedic but still gritty and violent style, paid homage a little to the French underground comics of the 70's that I guess we're partly responsible for the style and story of the original alien. Dan obannon used to write for metal hurlant, I think. Ridley Scott has also said he had been stylistically influenced by Metal Hurlant and similar works.

Having said all this the next alien films I'll be watching, likely this evening, will be 3 and prometheus :D

Hot takes, ScoJo. All jesting aside, while I kind of love them all, Alien The Fourth may be my favorite of the sequels. Probably too close to call though. The original is miles ahead of any them and the one of the best films ever made.

I'm wondering what people are getting from the recent test pressing sale. I got Planet of the Apes. Which is cool... but so is the event edition I bought from them.

My incoming Gremlins and Cloverfield Lane package is being held with a customs charge. 2nd in a row, UK bound

I know this is beyond Mondo's control but if this is gonna become a regular occurance going fed this is gonna put a dampener on 2017 orders

Anyone else having issues?

If you used the DHL option than yes :-)
Last two orders I used the USPS option and no customs...
I wouldn't even mind paying the VAT. It't the additional charge for calculating the VAT that sucks.

I'll have to look into that. It takes me through PayPal and I just confirm card to use and delivery address. Didn't even know there was other options. Cheers for advice fella

I wonder if it's a UK thing. I just sent a box to London, and the USPS cashier mentioned they are returning packages for all kinds of reasons. I wrote my shipper name as Last name, First Initial. She said they've returned boxes all the way back to the states for missing complete name, missing/incomplete phone number, inaccurate item count, incomplete item description- any little thing.

If I can keep the package under 0.9 kg the USPS firsr class international rate is $22.50, after that it jumps up to $34.50. Adding tracking (EMS Express International) is about $67 for 1LP. Wish it were cheaper, the rates are quite high in 2016. FedEx and UPS are both $105-110 for the cheapest option!!

The last two orders I've added an extra item (extra copy of Fight Club & copy of Synchronicity on top of Le Matos Join Us) to the order to make it a little more worth while. The customs charge is almost the same (as £8 of it is the base fee) and postage only a dollar or so more. Makes it feel less of a sting when I get the customs notification!

I've now just budgeted to expect it on each order. Although somehow The Fountain got through to me without any charges :)

I'm happy doing it like this as well - I had daredevil and Jessica Jones on my order to make 4 LPs - but all depends on the drop and how long they will last... I missed out on the Fountain and Fight Club like this as thought they would be around longer (though I realize re-presses are hinted at next year so no great loss). At same time Planet of Apes and Monster Squad are still up for grabs as delayed on these with so many purchases this year so can add these in mix at some point.

But you just never know how it will play out on long run to 'wait or take the risk'. The Night Evelyn I dived on as was a 'limited 500 run' and thought that would go quicker though I could have waited, whereas Fight Club left as thought would be around longer and that went fast... didn't want to risk it with Gremlins...

Its a game of chance and funds. I do wish both mondo and transmission would do a 'number count' on copies available to give peeps more the heads up. I remember the old death waltz site used to do this, but now you only get a 'low on stock' message.
