Sleazy listening tonight from Vinegar Syndrome. I'm not sure if the mixed "dialogue" is already on the source recordings, but at least it's not continuous throughout or completely overbearing (though that vibrator on one track had me thinking my rig wasn't grounded). Definitely nsfw or family though. A decent collection of alien porno grooves, though some tracks are brief/mixed out. Chill numbers, weird vibes, upbeat brass, spaced-out guitar... good times. The pressing sounds great, and the LP sleeve is solid. Some film photos on the back. I also like the 16/35mm can designs on the labels.

This one isn't too shy either. The theme song sounds like James Bond's Goldfinger played by a pornfunk band -- awesome. The rest of the album could pass for a library album - very smooth and playful with some funked up drums popping up on a couple tracks. Chill and groovy, and with a killer number to close things out.

@deaf - totally agree on those Vinegars. Great packaging and pressing. The tunes are rad. I would prefer less dialogue on SEEK but did laugh at the vibrator track. SEEK is available to watch on the sites and I would be remiss to not recommend you at least watch the last scene (the one in the sauna with the swim caps and goggles). I should stop now.

Currently listening to a record from way back when I had just started buying music on vinyl. It's also that time when Myspace was a thing, with all it's glitter gifs and all the bands on there could use it as a platform for networking and it'd actually work. 10 years ago. 2006.

those days, all the core genres were big. emocore, grindcore, metalcore etc. And there was this oddball band, Genghis Tron, who did a sort of patchwork of abrasive gives-no-fuck-about-genres electro-grindcore-chiptune. It feels dated to me now, or rather, it feels like a thing from a very specific time and place. I have not spun this album in something like 4 or 5 years for sure.

It's definitely a souvenir from that era of my early twenties period where I was consuming a lot of energetic and chaotic music and Genghis Tron probably helped me get into the concept of noise as music, harsh noise walls, the way that you'd fill the aural space with a concrete impenetrable wall and then experience the release when it drops to minimal synthesizer waves or electronic and melodic hooks. I don't know if it's a landmark band but it's been a stepping stone to my appreciation of chaos in music I guess.

I always thought that the main title track was great. I mean, listen to that part starting at 01:00, with the 2 synthesizers, that's amazing stufff. Great cover art too. and they did get some remix EPs with people like Ulver and Steve Moore remixing their tracks for their second/last/best album, "board up the house".

Going to spend some time listening to Agalloch tonight. I used to be into them a lot, like, I would listen to their albums for hours. I still think they are great, I'm happy to have been able to see them play live twice in Montreal.

Starting the spins with material from the "Demonstration Archives" boxset. It consists of their Demo, "From Which This Oak" on a 12" vinyl, their promo 1998 tape on 10" vinyl, and their "Of Stone, Wind, and Pillor" EP on 7" vinyl. It also contains a flag, an envelope with a set of 4 artcard photos from that era, and a 12" booklet with lyrics, credits, and cover arts from the original releases. It's a cool boxset.

@Mateo-pick one up for sure. You can't go wrong with cuts from the first four films Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, The Enforcer, and Sudden Impact:) I think you can still get one at a good price too. Well worth it!

^ agreed! Some folks have sniffed a bit at these 're-recordings' but in lieu of full releases from any of the films I will take it. And they sound bad-ass!

^Yeah, I would like a complete score release of Sudden Impact for sure. I don't know if these Dirty Harry soundtracks were ever completely released on CD or not. The album does sound great!

Last spin of this bad ass record. One I really, really did not want to sell, but it is what it is, and I need to build a nursery! Exciting times on the way. Maybe Neuropa will reissue it again. It's pretty awesome.

I'm firmly of the opinion that the closing title track "Heartbeat" is one of the all-time shittiest songs ever committed to celluloid. The first time I saw Manhunter (in the cinema, 2nd run!) it ALMOST made me hate the film. I wised up of course, and now have the sense to switch the fucker off as soon as it's Peterson's bandy legs walking away from camera towards the sunset and the first putrid bars of it come crashing in. I like to imagine a version with no song at all...just the sound of the ocean/seagulls...and we can meditate on how Will Graham will now have to deal with the scars of his encounter with The Tooth Fairy/Lecter.
But, y'know - Mann being the cheesy macho mofo that he can't help being.....'Heartbeat. Heartbeat. Listen to my heart beat.....oooowwwooaaahhhhh-oooohhhhhhh......'

@texas - congrats on the little record collector. Dude, buy as many as you can now because you know the old cliche... Two pieces of advice: 1) move your turntable out of reach and 2) pack your records in tight and their small weak little fingers would be able to pull them out.

@NathanLurker - Nice material you are pulling out, and cool to see that Ghengis Tron LP. Plenty of breakcore in my library as well. Agalloch were from Portland, and I have seen them perform live quite a few times . They always put on an interesting show, and created a large following across the world.

This is crushing my Sunday afternoon:

Massive late 90's breaks and triphop, and worthy of grail status on vinyl. Mondo is just twisting the screws on the packaging and presentation: from the ridiculous pink soap vinyl hiding in bags of fat on the inner sleeves, to the large fold-out Mondö instruction sheet, and finally the collector OCD challenge of just opening it. The pressing sounds awesome, and overall I would consider this release to be a triumph. Predictably, I landed somewhere in the middle between the X-Acto knife and the full sacrifice:

just had time to play this one. i really love it from start to finish. such an easy & seazy piece of wax. played it three times in a row. can't wait to listen to the other one. would love to see more from Vinegar Syndrome...
