I believe this a bootleg, even though it's listed as a legit Victor Japan release on Discogs. It seems to be a low-quality dupe of the CD album on Victor, including the same catalog number, but without any company logos or copyright text anywhere on the LP. As the final insult, the black vinyl has heavy, whooshy surface noise on the first few tracks on both sides. Some of the cymbals and percussion sound distorted as well.

Very disappointing for what I feel to be an enormous accomplishment from Kenji Kawai, who managed to equal if not surpass his work on Ghost in the Shell. I was fortunate to see Innocence during it's brief US theatrical run, and Kawai's new score was a large part of the enjoyment for me. Even through the murk of this vinyl, the powerful moments still shine through and inspire. I will probably keep listening to the CD/digital versions for now, but unless any experts want to chime in, I feel this should be filed under the unofficial Victor label: https://www.discogs.com/label/496895-Victor-4

I would still love to see what Tiger Lab or Milan could do with Kawai's two scores for GitS. The original CD's have plenty of liner notes and production photos, but all the text is in Japanese. It would be great to have some liner notes in English. Total support for labels doing proper vinyl releases of these albums.

I cannot second these sentiments any harder, Deaf. The Kawai GitS scores are phenomenal and my digital copies are always in rotation. Hard to believe there isn't a market for these to be properly sourced and mixed for vinyl. And some translated liners!

Anyone else dig Don Ellis stuff? Feels like he's still overlooked even after the Whiplash movie. Currently jamming out to the theme from The French Connection

Don Ellis is pretty cool. His scores to French Connection 1 and 2 as well as The Seven-Ups are really good listens. I saw recently that LaLaLand released expanded scores to both Connections along with the tv series The French Connection (who knew?) by none other than Brad Fiedel. Hopefully some of it will eventually get licensed for vinyl.

You can just hear that the band had a great time making this record. It's a terrific jazz album, everyone from the casual or first time jazz listener to the biggest jazz snob will find lots to like. Lalo Schifrin gets after it on the piano, the group is tight, the solos fun and inspired. Produced by Quincy Jones and arranged by Schifrin. The standouts for me are the two Jobim classics No More Blues / Chega De Saudade and Desafinado.

Pleasantly surprised with this. It has a lot more character than I expected. I still need to see the film but have heard good things.

Some great spins again.
@ Texas: 10 Cloverfield Lane was a lot of fun to watch. Recommended!
@ Million: that is a record I really want - fantastic cover!

Today I took the day of to do nothing else but listen to records! And knit while listening.
And a package will arrive in a couple of hours that contains more listening material. This is going to be a very relaxing day :-)

Start of with this gem:

@texas - I need Cloverfield Lane, but amma gonna waits for the black retail. Mondo-to-UK is a big ole bat up the ass right now, feels like being worked over by Negan and Lucille ;)

@Bez - also having a free day of listening! Starting off the day right ways with a full-blooded jolt of cinematic cray-cray...

Deviation is a little gem! And the SW is, as I keep saying, one that everyone here should at the least check out samples. It's superb!

Indeed. And those Dagored releases are cheap to buy but excellent quality. However I need to change the plastic inner sleeves they use to house the records in.

My third Cipriani for today:

my first intro to Christopher Young. I saw the movie in the theaters way, way, way back. I knew I wanted the score with the opening titles. One of my favorites from Mr. Young.

I love this one! The Opening is one killer track! I agree Bez, if not for Scojo I would have completely passed this one by in my local shop.

Those Dagored releases start out around $30 when they arrive Stateside, but the ones that don't sell out end up quite cheap; sometimes sub $15. I bought a copy of Morricone's The Link (Extrasensorial) for $9.50 a couple of weeks back. Worth every penny.

After long delays, iam8bit finally ships... a really middling and disappointing Killer Instinct release. The mastering sucks in parts especially the vocal in Orchid's theme and is generally inconsistent from track to track. I think they tried to match one of Fulgore's color skins with the vinyl color, but it just looks drab and bad. Silver might have been a better choice. The metallic ink on the jacket looks decent but it is a flimsy direct board affair. They even managed to mess up the lock groove "c-c-c-combo breaker" at the end of side A, on my copy the first half is very muted then it clicks and gets loud for the second half. And the label design...sheesh can you get more uninspired? What a fucking hack job!
