deafmetal wrote:@Spun - that album is quite a mind-bender. I really like how it's laid out over the four sides of the 2LP. I also recommend queuing up the documentary in your watch list. Jodorowsky aside, it's a great look into the creative process behind a scifi film adaptation/production.
Just out of interest @deafmetal, did your Dune come with the poster mentioned in the cover sticker? Mine didn't. No biggie, maybe their plan changed - did get the booklet & download card mentioned on the OBI.

Good choices above. Wondered about picking up the NIN, but looked pricey.

Now for some of this (possibly overlooked?) gem of propulsive Nordic synth worship....

How is that box set? I was thinking of getting it as well. But with so many re-issues of Pretty Hate Machine I was thinking of trying to go for older versions... But a box set always looks nice.

@Spun - my copy of Dune did include a large 12-panel poster. Odd that yours did not. A mistake perhaps?

Regarding the NIN box set, it includes near exact recreations of the original US singles and the Pretty Hate Machine LP. PHM includes a copy of the original insert/lyric sheet. The various sleeves look just like I remember seeing them. PHM feels like 180gm vinyl, and the singles are probably 140gm. I do not own original copies so I can't compare pressing quality, but the black wax sounds great to me. I think if you went after NM copies of the originals it would probably be more expensive than this box set, but you get that OG factor, including the TVT Records branding. You could probably get VG+ copies for less than this box set. I will say that the actual box is really solid and nice, with the embossed NIN/halo on the front. No booklet or any extras though.

RE: buying old PHM versions. Just don't.

There's only one PHM you should buy. It's this one:

Xmas music in full swing now. Was hoping to find a Philles Christmas LP (Phil Spector & the Wrecking Crews' amazing Xmas album) before Christmas this year, but it doesn't seem likely. I did find a good JB record though, and I like this one better than his "Soulful Christmas" album. That store probably had 2,000 Christmas LPs, apparently it's where every bad Xmas record goes to die.

Why is this a triple LP? This is rough around the edges and badly in need of editing... The last track is five minutes of raw studio feed of multiple takes for a three-note flute sound. Just...why

@Texasvinyl : Is it the same through all discs ? or is it only the 3rd disc that's crammed with alternate takes etc ? I was very tempted to buy Bloody Moon.

There is a lot of material that covers a lot of ground. Only that last track is like that. The release generally doesn't flow well though as a whole. I'd be curious what this would sound like edited down to one pithy LP.

Sufficiently creepy and slighty mad:

I enjoyed this a lot more on vinyl compared to just hearing some audio samples. It is very cohesive throughout, and demented in the good sort of way. It gets into your head.

Also, yet another incredible package from Death Waltz: Nice gatefold sleeve even on the retail edition, poster, six-page booklet with great liner notes, obvious involvement from the composer, and all the US newspaper clippings are fantastic. It's also hilarious to have a bonus LP full of original 80's Christmas songs. I know I'm a year late on this one, but great work on this one @Spencer!
