By far the best find of the day. Hell, it's gotten so hard to find used stuff that this might be the best find I've had in a year.
James Brown: Motherlode is a "compilation/live cut/rarities" album released in the late 80s. I'm usually not a big fan of that type of album, but this isn't your ordinary comp!
Motherlode is straight funk fire from start to finish and includes some real gems like the 'Funk Bomb,' 'Untitled Instrumental' and a 9 minute version of 'People Get Up And Drive Your Funky Soul.' Shop must not have known what it was, they had it out for just a couple bucks. Without a doubt one of the best JB records, it will snap your neck.
Maybe one day I'll find the 2LP which came out about 15 years ago in Europe -- if anyone finds that for a cheap price, please let me know! This is the single LP which doesn't sound bad, but at ~25 minutes a side I'm sure the 2LP sounds more dynamic.
