Hannibal cancelled... that's some bullshit.

I'm usually one for getting quite attached to shows, even ones that I know aren't that good (Dexter after season 3), but I was neither surprised nor upset by the Hannibal cancellation.

I think it stood out as a piece of art. It neither looked nor sounded like anything else on TV. That said, I think it ultimately wasn't as clever as it wanted to be, and didn't try hard enough to be entertaining to find a big enough audience to get renewed again.

As someone who's been sad to see the cancellation of lesser shows, I'm sympathetic to Fannibals, as I've learned they're called.

I doubt the show's onset was to try and be entertaining for a bigger audience, and I think that's what made it good. It was purposefully confined to it's own genre so I shouldn't be surprised it was cut loose. The reality is these companies are competing for audience and revenue so they will not think twice about cancelling shows that don't make that happen.
This new streak of television film will be short-lived afterall, because let's face it, no matter how good a tv series is, commercialism and revenue will come first. I mean, look at Game of Thrones, and see they turned it into the new Dallas. To this day there's not much room to mess around with the TV formula of soap success.

I think considering its content, it did well to last 3 seasons. It was never going to breakthrough into a major show as it was basically an art-house horror. Maybe entertaining wasn't the word I was looking for. Engaging, perhaps, I found it increasingly clinical. I barely care about the fates of the characters but remain impressed visually and in terms of the amazing score.

I originally thought it was a terrible idea, but it won me over and I really enjoyed it for about a season and a half. I just felt that it got too caught up in its own pseudo-intellectual metaphors and psychoanalytical monologues. I'll stick with it til the end, but I think season 3 (I've only seen 2 episodes) has started heavily on what I think are the weakest elements of the show. The commercial side of it is unavoidable, but I don't think it means that TV can't be challenging without being cancelled.

Finished watching The Fall seasons 1 and 2. Very dark and heavy. Despite her fake accent, Gillian Anderson pulled off quite a chilling performance. Curious to see where they take it with season 3.

Also watched Fortitude. Totally bonkers and all over the place but I liked it.

Fake accent? You do realise it's her accent in The X-Files that is actually fake, don't you?

I watched The Jinx miniseries on HBO about Robert Durst a few weeks ago. HBO always does an amazing job with their documentaries and really hit a home run with this one. What an explosive ending, Highly recommended!

They have all 6 episodes on Youtube if you don't have HBO.

Actually both accents are real and both accents are fake. She's from the mid west United States but lived in England until she was a teenager, so she adopts either accent depending on where she is, even in interviews. I don't know what she uses in the fall, haven't watched it but, but if it's her English one then it's a little of column a and a little of column b, it's what makes her voice so unique

The ending of True Detective 2 was a bit hard to take. So good though.

Anyone watching Mr. Robot? Very good season, I hope they don't fac it up come season 2.

Scent, yes, Mr. Robot has been really good, looking forward to the season finale.

As an aside, I've started watching Person Of Interest and I'm quite liking it.
