I'm with you guys. I would love a sub, but I'm in it for the music, not the limited colors. I usually buy the color just because it fits the films or cover art, but I do actually spin these. And at 3 bills, there's no way I can justify it. Like you said Layne, with WW and OWS now in the game, there's too much good stuff coming! It's a great time to be a record lover!

Im in 2 minds whether to renew my subscription. Got the last 2 but think £190 in one lump is just getting too much.I think that £32 a record is just getting expensive especially when you are paying upfront. Gutted as I wanted to keep up the collection but at that price think I will pick and choose releases from now on.

I always wanted to sub, but honestly I don't know if I can justify it if the price has gone up.

Combine that with the fact that without knowing what the sub consists of, I might find that the main stuff I want is then off sub, like The Fog was...

I think I may sway from 'completist mode' like I have been so far, and got every DW release, over to starting to pick and choose titles. We will have to see.

I can totally see where everyone is coming from on both sides. I re-subscribed -- but I am also basically limiting my new vinyl buying to really special stuff these days -- and this is really special stuff. The cost is definitely a consideration -- but its worth sacrificing other things in my opinion! As far as not knowing what is coming up - I really enjoy that part, plus, I trust that DW is not going to start going Oblivion on us. Every release has been well thought out, plus it has been so well done. Here is what I am sacrificing for my subscription: my mondo "subscription", the rest of the iron maiden reissues and I am going to slowly sell off my black metal collection -- with a 2 year old I never listen to it anyway! Sacrifice makes it that much sweeter!

Assuming £22 per record (as per Maniac price) x 6 = £132
£5 per record recorded delivery x 6 = £30
Tote bag = £5
Total £167
So £190 overall cost - £167 = £23 extra for what? If there's a valid reason, I"m happy to pay it. Would just like some clarity as new sub implies there's no box or t-shirt which would justify that extra money.

I'm subscribing, as I've got everything so far and it takes the hassle out of scrambling around for popular releases.

But really someone coughing up cash in advance should be given a discount - not pay a premium.

Just curious as to what other people's feelings were on this?

I'm very happy to support DW as they put out top quality products - but I also don't want to be fleeced simply because there's a captive audience for these products.

Your right Andreas. Its the money up front that gets me £190 is getting too much. If the subscription was split into 3 payments I wouldnt mind as much. To be honest the last two subscription records didn't really blow me away musically and I definitely wouldnt play them DJing. If every record was as good as the Fog it would be worth it but as it stands I think I won't bother. Will still by the ones I want though haha.

I was just calculating that myself and I have to concure. I'd only get a subscription if I'd save money overall. I guess I'm only going for the releases I really want now and I'd have some more cash to spend on other stuff.

Guys
The sub is what it is.
I honestly cant believe that you think the sub should be cheaper, It's way more ltd and far more exclusive plus you never need to worry about something selling out because it will be sent to you.
I'm shocked you say you feel you are being ripped off by £23 ...
Do you guys know how much the box cost to produce for the first 2 subs ? £3678 pounds .
We Gave that away.
The flexi disc cost £500 we gave that away.
We also gave you a shirt badges stickers etc.
That was at my own cost but I did it because it's cool and the the folks that dropped for subs right out the gate helped us along to get where we are now.

I am just trying to be transparent here with you .. you know you will get something special from us , we have all sorts of things in the pipeline. For our first six months in business we only charged £6 to ship to the USA with a sig but it cost us £12.50 every time we shipped a record overseas.
I understand that it's a chunk upfront and thats why I try and deliver stuff to you that others wont get so that it is special.

All releases going forward will have tip on heavyweight sleeves and will all be 180gm vinyl. We are really upping our game qualitywise , our factory is even cutting us a bespoke sleeve so we can keep the thickness of the fog sleeve but get the records out easier ;)

It's actually really upsetting that you think you are being fleeced... I'm quite offended by that if I'm honest....

I personally did the honorable thing. I SOLD a bunch of CD's to make sure I had the money to get in on this a 3rd time. I had stopped buying them a while back, it was now time to start unloading them, as if I needed an excuse!!

So far, the sub packages have definitely been worth the price (as Spencer points out). Part of me likes getting the payment part out of the way...

3rd times a charm?

Yeah, unfortunately there's no way I can afford that. I buy all my vinyl for the music...soooo I'll just have to go to picking up the regular editions from LITA. Worrying about the rarity isn't something that concerns me anyways...I don't buy my vinyl thinking about what it might be worth in the future, as I do not plan to sell it off...so it's rarity and collectibility just isn't a factor when picking up records. I was really considering picking this sub up too! I'm sure there will be some good stuff in it.

i think the sub is super cool. i mean, i've been a platinum member of the Third Man Records Vault from the very first package. that's $60 USD per quarter for a 12", a 7", and usually something silly like a tote bag or postcards (there have been some nice third items, don't get me wrong). some may think that is pricey for what you get, but it is limited to the number of subscribers, just as this subscription is, even limited beyond that to a specific number up-front. i have never been a DW subscriber, but i have every release now except for EFNY and Donnie Darko, and that will be remedied very soon. i do have two sub editions that i picked up from ebay or discogs, and i swear when i opened them, i audibly gasped. they are gorgeous, and everytime i see a picture of some of the others, i want them quite badly. but since i live in the US, it ends up being almost double the price after conversion rates when i compare what i would spend getting the less collectible (but still unbelievably nice) colored variant from LITA.

i think what you are doing, spencer, is amazing, and the quality and care taken on each release has never let me down. not to mention i have been introduced to a few movies/composers i had not seen or heard before. the devil's business for instance FLOORED me musically. i will be picking up all of the future releases from LITA unless i simply can't be without a sub edition (room 237 maybe???). i think you guys are doing a hell of a job. i think itis hard for people that are this far into it to remember that this is a costly business for the labels, and sometimes things cost a bit more, especially something as limited as the subscription. if i lived in the UK, i would be subscribing every time, you better believe it.

i look forward to hearing about the next batch of releases. in the meantime, my MANIAC should be arriving any day care of a fine canadian gent. so that should tide me over for a while.

Hey I was wondering, my buddy got a Darko from LITA b/c they sold him prince of darkness but ran out of copies so they sent him Darko but they sent just the lp. I had a question, is there any way I could buy an extra cover off of you, or get a high enough res version so I could print my own cover. It is one of the only DW releases I don't have and it'd be an easy way to get it I just want to have some cover art!

Spencer, I didn't mean to offend you. Fleeced is probably not the best word to have used. Apologies - I spend all day at work questioning companies' costs, so I didn't mean to bring that mentality back home and to this forum.

I didn't realise the stuff like the boxes and flexis cost so much, so I'll shut up about the business side of DW and will continue to support the label. The quality of your products is way better than anything else I've seen and I'm looking forward to getting all the new releases.

How long does shipping take to the US from DW? I got my 'order complete' e-mail almost 3 weeks ago and haven't received my albums yet. Not worried, just curious.

So, pardon my filthy mouth, but holy fucking shit, some of you are entitled. It's not a bloody magazine subscription, it's essentially a service that provides you the most limited edition versions of all of Death Waltz's releases. Are you so hung up on the word subscription that you think it should be a bargain? Give your head a shake! I've got all the limited releases, and I have opened and listen to them all because I don't give a fuck (and I can afford it). If the price of admission for that is too much for you, then just buy the regular release and stop bitching. It's that easy. For me, the extra cost is completely fine because it means I don't have to scramble to get the releases and as an added bonus I get slightly different/more limited versions and the occasional subscriber perk. On top of that, I'm giving an upfront show of support to Spencer because I legitimately want him to keep doing releases and I want him to know that. He's running a business, and he needs to make money to be able to keep doing that. Not just money for Death Waltz, but for himself as well, so that he can dedicate his time and energy into Death Waltz and not into paying the fucking power bill. /rant

p.s: nothing personal to any of you. If I offended you, well, that sucks, but I will not apologize for speaking my mind.
