I am by no means insinuating that folks here should not say exactly what's on their minds, I'm only trying to offer perspective on why I think the Mondo threads are full of more vitriol than any other. Shit happens and as consumers we have every right to be dismayed or even angry about it, but it is rare that folks on STBC address their problems to other labels with the same tone as they do Mondo. Consistency is what I'm after. The individual poster should decide their tone (we're largely a polite bunch, but it's your choice), but why not apply it unilaterally?

We should certainly try to buy the DMM press from the Scientologists, even if it's just to make sure that we're not swamped by endless Grease/Saturday Night Fever reissues...

They are super busy trying to get records delivered and shipped

Why I am posting on a Jurassic park thread I'm not sure but seeing as I am probably as rude about mondo as anyone I might as well restate my position.

Mondo are 100% to blame for their reputation, nobody else did it for them.

I don't know anyone there and they might be the nicest people in the world but they are hopeless at communication, poor (or at best horribly inconsistent) at customer service and I suspect this is all a result of being hopelessly disorganized.

They have the emails of everyone who has ordered a particular item. They have a website. They have a blog. Why they cannot advise of delays or problems consistently through a particular channel is beyond me. I am fine with delays. What I am not fine with is the assumption that you can just take someone's money, miss all your self-proclaimed dates by months, and then ignore them until you finally deign to get your shit together.

And Spencer, you assertion that they are busy trying to get records out...I know you mean well but it's likely not true. They're probably busy with their next posters or showing or whatever. They have obviously taken on far too much too quickly without having any processes in place to actually do half of it properly. Their shipping is a joke, it takes them 5 weeks to get all the orders out for a given record and that is pathetic. If you can't ship stuff then outsource it to a company that will. And in the process get rid of your crap mailers and use something decent instead.

I want to like mondo. I have at least half the releases and on the whole they're pretty good (and the visitor is awesome) but everything involved with ordering something from them sucks - the "drop" shenanigans, the website, the interminable shipping process and the customer service.

I had some problems with death waltz when it started. And you know what? You fixed them. And you've changed things up constantly to improve everything. I buy hundreds upon hundreds of records a year, have done for twenty years or more at this point. I have my fair share of issues. Nearly all of them get resolved to my satisfaction. There's one record label that never improves, that consistently disappoints me, can you guess who it is? Mondo.

Fucking hipsters.

I have to agree with Ben. I have no problem waiting on things. Hell, I've been waiting on Gravity ever so patiently since the pre-order date. A little clarity and openness would have been nice. OWS had a hell of a delay with theirs, but they were honest and open about it! You didn't see them ignoring their subbers or those who were interested in their product.

I also don't like how mondo has a way of treating people differently. Say five people buy a record and all five have damaged goods (split spine). All five call and ask for a new jacket.

Person A- gets sent a new jacket it arrives in five days
Person B- gets sent a new record in the shrink wrap (a variant to boot!)
Person C- gets sent a new jacket, it arrives 2 weeks later and it isn't even the jacket he asked for!
Person D- has to mail back their damaged jacket, which takes a week, wait three days for processing and wait another week for the new jacket to arrive
Person E- has to send photos of the damaged product, but then gets sent a new jacket and new sleeves

Tell me why each of these individuals aren't all treated the same? The same problem should have the same end result. The key to any good company is good, consistent customer service and communication. I feel mondo has neither of these.

All this anger might be better in the general Mondo thread rather than the specific Jurassic Park one?

Yeah, I realized after I posted where I was. Even though the time delay is relevant, the venting can be moved. Can these select few posts above be moved?

I got shipping confirmation that gravity shipped and SUPPOSEDLY, my sleeves from the omen are in there as well. lol. We shall see. :) I've been waiting on them forever. :D It'd really be nice if I got a variant since I ordered from the get-go, but I've only struck gold once out of maybe almost ten tries. Here's to luck!!!

Well then, Gravity is already sold out. I was planning on waiting to buy it when they were actually shipping. Oh well, it's not something I need to have. That makes four recent Mondo releases I've skipped.

I was surprised to just discover that. I was on their page perusing things and I was just clicking on vinyl (everything there I have except "the visitor" and I was really surprised to see gravity sold out. Everyone here was bashing it and I really didn't expect a "sold out" on it; go figure. Maybe mondo had such a hard time getting it in that they didn't have as large of a quantity made as they usually do. Or they based it off the pre-orders (mostly) and then made a certain amount of extra for the store so they didn't have a large quantity sitting around not selling. It always looks good when you have a product that says "sold out". Makes it look like you are in high demand.

It just means they printed the label on the 12th but didn't actually hand it over to USPS until the 17th.

That's pretty much what I said. ;) I'd rather them not print it until they are actually READY to ship.

Really getting frustrated with Mondo. After waiting months and months as many of you have to get my Gravity vinyl, it has a dent on one corner of the packaging, as well as very obvious indented ring ware. This is the 3rd time i have had an issue with packaging being damaged right out of the box. While it is not a deal breaker like a major spine split i had with the Halloween release, it annoys me very much since their shipping is 7 dollars and almost every release i have gotten from there has had damaged packaging. For 7 bucks i should get some bubble wrap or something! I feel like this money is going to print the giant M on the cardbord packaging i throw away. I really wish some of these new, innovative companies in the vinyl game would champion for better shipping methods. You can come up with all the neat, fancy releases you want, but you must learn to ship them, especially since you are pioneering them as "limited" and rare. Give me an option to have you (mondo) take the vinyl out of the packaging and place it behind the record like vinyl collectors and some websites do i have bought from online do. This will cut down on shipping ring ware, as well as seem splits. Super annoying.

It was worth the wait, at least I think so. Pretty solid soundtrack, though the frenetic crescendo buildup that cuts to silence was perhaps an overused stylistic device.
