Funnily enough, I was just telling my wife about this thread and in the process she called me out when I used one of my other favorite defenses:

"Some of these guys would spend way more than me on a record, I'm really not so bad."

Luckily I'm home week days and catch about 90% of my purchases or else I would be in trouble

This thread had me laughing so much, i thought i was the only one sweating each time a record showed up. My wife never asked me how much i spend, rather, she would comment, "babe, you buy a lot of records!"

To which i reply, "most of them are cheap and used." Not lying, 'most' yes but not all [horns protrude from skull]

Still, she knows i collect stuff.

^ Yep, this is the one! I normally get home around baby bathtime/bedtime so luckily I have a window of opportunity to snaffle stuff into my study before I get busted!

I'm very happy to live with a girlfriend that doesn't give a fuck what I spend my money on as long as I pay my share of bills. I would have a hard time being with someone that made me feel bad every time I bought records.

I guess I got a good one too = enabler - Before I got a smart phone she was the one getting me the records that would drop at certain dates and times...hell she actually set up her own Mondo account to make it easier on her not having to remember all my passwords!

My wife is a knitter so she has her own "habits"...and folks...yarn ain't cheap - I NEVER question...so she won't me - She laughs when we both get packages...she thinks it's cute

I try to be fair in the amount I'm spending and use many of the excuses used,there is a great list. I love the one about the subscription being for 200 records, classic!
When I order from the states I nearly always get 2 and say the cost of postage is so high that it's the same price basically as for one, like an extra 50p or something.
It's not that she would give me a hard time as such. I think I actually give myself more of a hard time about what I spend, cause I could be buying her or my little daughter something nice, but I do sometimes buy them records.
I was thinking about getting the Frozen soundtrack but it's $50!!!

It does help that I am my own mailman however and deliver my own post!

I'm new to this forum, but I have to say I really love the posts I read. This one in particular had me laughing pretty hard. My wife always asks how much I spend on records, and then says "never mind, I don't think I want to know."The other day I was having a conversation with a friend on Facebook, and let drop that I spent $200.00 for a record. She got pretty upset. Vinyl collecting is quite the addiction. I've definitely done my share of delivered package intercepting and disguising. Ha ha ha.

luckily i work about 5 minutes from Piccadilly records in Manchester so i can order stuff online, pop out on my lunch break to collect them, and as I get home from work an hour earlier, I can stash them upstairs in my music room before she gets back. Been working well for the last 9 years. Unfortunately i am getting more records mail order these days such as the last DW sub. Now I just say everything costs about half of what it really does.

I'm glad I am single. My ex gave me a lot of trouble for my collecting habits. I do have a problem. But I work two jobs to afford the habit. I do need to slow down and build up a bit of a nest egg.

My wife doesn't care enough and couldn't comprehend the cost. She thinks it costs a few pounds for a record and who am I to say other wise.

Ive got two kids under 5, I don't go out drinking, I don't smoke and i don't buy what I can't afford.

Of course she would be horrified if she knew how much money I'd given to Spencer this past year!!

My wife knows what I spend and I have a pretty strict budget. I have never had to hid anything from her or anything. I did have a customer the other day buying all three of the new Led Zeppelin Super Deluxe boxes and he begged us to put some fake cheaper sale stickers on them so he could hid the total from his wife. It was pretty funny.

The advantage of working in a distribution warehouse for a bunch of labels, as well as being a music journalist, means that my wife's little-to-no idea what's coming in. Granted, now that our budget's tightened up, any expenditure has to be justified with the "well, I sold a $1 record for $50 to some guy in Austria" excuse. Somehow, as long as she's no idea exactly what's going out, everything's cool.
