Rewatching the trilogy this weekend. No particular reason.

(*hoot hoot!)
I really liked the first one. Not sure if I saw the rest. But you say trilogy? I thought there were seven or so…
Yep, I’m only interested in the first 3.

The ‘79 original is kind of a snooze, with moments and obviously it creates all the iconography.

II: The Possession (scripted by Tommy Lee Wallace) is genuinely effed up and well worth revisiting. The stuff they made director Damiani cut after the disastrous preview sounds truly upsetting and over the top. It’s very much more like an 80s Italian horror vibe than US horror of the time.

Mileage varies for most on 3: The Demon but I’m quite fond of it, especially in 3D.

ps. there are actually 23 films that trade off the Amityville name/source, mostly video productions, with 5 more in production. Most have a less than 3/10 rating on imdb, incidentally.

I will check out the second and third one. I also now want to watch the three remaining House sequels.

Just finished this. Pure brilliance. Totally my kind of absurd insanity.

With Oak Street hitting vod this weekend my wife wanted to watch it so we did, still enjoyed on rewatch.

Went to Resident Evil yesterday and enjoyed the hell out of it, the main actor Austin had the perfect freak out screams that just made me laugh. His reactions to all the shit happening around him was very entertaining. I can understand people not liking his "commentary" about the events happening around him but I honestly would do the same thing if I was stranded by myself trying to rationalize what I'm seeing around me. That said some of it felt a bit too "need a line here" for it all to actually work. I thought overall it was a great take on the series, nothing directly tied to any of the games but lots of little references for those that have played them. There were first aid sprays, herbs, weapon attache, maps, locks (this bit was so good), typewriter, among many other little things. I liked a lot of the choices with the virus, it worked well and the finale was fitting to anyone that's played an RE game

Watched a film called Rosebush Pruning, that was a steaming pile of shit that I wish I didn't waste my time watching

And the highlight of my weekend was Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Was enthralled by this one, visually stunning in weird and simple ways. True love and respect for F13th source that they are referencing with their set up. Gillian turning in an odd as hell performance with an awful accent and the main actor really nailing it. The gore was hilariously executed. Just one of those films that pulled me right in and never let up the entire run time

I love me a 90s B-movie dressed as an A-list thriller, and I haven’t even thought about this one in 30 years. The goddess Stowe, Dante Spinotti, Brad Fiedel, solid British director… umm yes please.

What a traumatising flick! 😳 Wild that this was same year as poltergeist. Insanely brilliant Herschey performance.

They could have done better with the US one sheet though.

True Confessions is a favorite of mine, and a couple of horny 90's thrillers! Nice.

This was everything I hoped it would be, even though I read the making of book and all sorts of other stuff, I still found it utterly fascinating.

I’m very very sick again (like, praying for merciful death sick) so looking at a weekend of bed rest and more movies.

Scott, your post is worrying! Please take care of yourself, and I hope you are on some kind of medicine?

I love the first act the most; for me, the intensity lessens slightly once they get to the science lab stuff later. The first half is genuinely terrifying. It's the only movie that I had to turn off half-way through.

I had moved into a house in California where the previous old lady owner had just died. The place ended up being genuinely haunted. I always thought that stuff was bullshit until I lived in this place. Tons of sightings by three different people over the 15 years I lived there. So I always had a mild undercurrent of unease living in this place when one night, by myself, I decided to watch it again and the realism in the way it is handled got me creeped tf out.

It was a small, background nightmare that I would just try to ignore... it was not often, and very spread out over the years, but there was always a bit of unease being there and going to sleep. When I sold the place (which was also a nightmare for the same reasons), the agent asked if there was any supernatural activity. I had no idea that is a real question in real estate forms... of course, I said no, haha. He told me that the real estate company was getting sued by a doctor because they sold him a house with ghost activity.

Ahh that’s kind of you Ev, I’m through the worst now I hope and managed to avoid hospital (my worst nightmare) as my high temp broke today. I don’t know what the eff happened- I came back from touring two weeks ago with covid, only my second round and the first with me being outside of full vax protection - very dumb, it was way way worse this time but after a week I was all good, then out of the blue on thursday night my breathing just went to shit and had high fever/aching all over and every other kind of unpleasantness. Two days in bed with meds and rest and I seem to be through the woods 🙏🏼

Your entity tales have given me a new round of chills however!

What a story about your house, Evan. I loved the Entity, but it was pretty nasty as far as those types of movies go. Especially for the time.

Great to hear you are getting a bit better, ScoJo. Sounds horrible how you were feeling.

These I watched this weekend (in bottom to top order):

I watched The Exorcist 2 last night. Boorman & the Devil gave me a lot more context for the choices that were made, doesn't make it better but allowed me to appreciate what they were going for even if it was completely unsuccessful. The whole thing being shot on sound stages is super impressive

Hoping to check out Onslaught this weekend, I know it was pretty mixed but I thought the trailer looked fun as hell
