How's CARRION? Sounds like some fairly intense body horror. I was rummaging through the quarter bin at the local used bookstore and found a first edition pb copy of Off Season by Jack Ketchum....my hands shook picking it up.

Carrion is pretty good. I enoyed the first half better than the second. The main character, Fain, is a self-centered smuck and his attitude about being able to raise the dead is so nonchalant it had me chuckling. There is little horror in it in my opinion but still very readable. Brandner makes things interesting enough to keep me turning the pages. I'll be finishing it today.

Congrats on finding your copy of Off Season. Been there with the shaking hands bit :). Is this copy the black cover with the drop of blood? I dont remember alot from the books I read back in the 80's but there are scenes from that book that still stick in my head. It may seem mild with whats out there these days but for it's time, that was heavy stuff. Still got my original copy.

Brandner's a good writer, at the very least puts forth interesting ideas in interesting ways. Will look around, maybe my library has a digital copy to sample.

Yeah you nailed it. Black cover, drop of blood. About a third of the size of the author's preferred version released much later.

Another Avon paperpack original author, MIchael McDowell, was always a favorite of mine. His Blackwater series is great. I reread it a couple of years ago. And last year I reread The Elementals, another great one. He is also resposible for giving us the screeplays to Beetlejuice and The NIghtmare before Christmas. I don't remember very much about this book so I'm looking forward to revisiting it. He passed away in December of 1999 from AIDS. We lost a great one too soon.

I like it too. The artist wasn't credited on the copyright page. From what I've been able to find it was done by Don Ivan Punchatz. He did alot of Science Fiction and Fantasy book art.

These are what I've been reading recently. Been trying to stay in the rhythm of reading everyday even if it's only 20-30 mins. Highly recommend Coffin Moon, enjoyable spin on vampire story that had me wanting to revisit Near Dark. In the Miso Soup was excellent, wasn't sure what to expect but it was brutal and unfolded in a great way. Audition I knew exactly what to expect and still loved it. I'm waiting for my next book to arrive so I grabbed that King book to read some shorts in the meantime

My curiosity has been piqued for Keith Rosson. I haven't read any of his stuff but it all seems to get good reviews. I may have to pick up Coffin Moon. Been thinking about visiting Night Shift again but it may get put on the back burner. I do want to reread Talisman and Black House before T3 is released.

I think by now everyone on this thread knows my love for Robert McCammon. For me, he is right up there along side Stephen King. I'm sharing this in case there is anyone else out there who shares this love :) or is just another fellow collector of special hardcover edition books. Lividian Press has announced the Robert McCammon Library and it's something I'm looking forward to. They are starting with his first book Baal.
