Somehow, my first ever watch. Holy shit!

It’s like Matthew Barney meets Stanley Donen…

Watched a few things this weekend

Angel's Egg 4K restoration which was absolutely beautiful. My wifes first viewing and she loved it. Definitely worth watching the new restoration if you can

Keeper. New Osgood Perkins film, I really enjoyed this but can tell that it won't be for everyone

Predator: Badlands. What if we made Predator a Marvel movie? That's pretty much what this felt like, I enjoyed it had fun, felt like a big popcorn action film. Humor works but ultimately doesn't feel like it fits the world of Predator. I'll at least watch the sequel to see where they take this storyline though. It's no where near as good as Prey though so just check your expectations before going in

No Telling. First Larry Fessenden directed feature. I really enjoyed it, small fucked up little film. Feels like a time capsule of the era that you will never see again

Not a movie, but available wherever you stream your shows. Loving it- if you’re a fan of Midwestern crime, Jim Thompson, Ethan Hawke, books, Keith David….. actually the whole cast is fantastic. Macon Blair has a small part but also directs a few eps. Fantastic soundtrack/needle drops. One of those shows that’s so good I’ve been pacing out the episodes to fully savour.

Has been given a second series which is great news.

Just finished episode 5 last night. Been loving it so far. Macon directed the final scene of ep 5 like a damn horror movie and it worked really well. Was pretty funny I was thinking to myself that I was really impressed with the show and I wondered what the showrunner had done before, turns out it was Reservation Dogs, one of my favorite shows of the last few years. Makes more sense now on why I am enjoying this so much

Lowdown put me in mind of this old favourite so I had a rewatch - just as good if not better than I remembered. Close to being a masterpiece. Great Ry Cooder score.

Every one of those ICE fuckos should be forced to watch it repeatedly, Clockwork Orange-style.

I watched Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Retribution this week, thought it was quite good. It's not on the same level as Cure or Pulse but it's just a small step down. @scojo you seen this one? I know you're a pretty big Kurosawa fan

I' think I've now seen 12 of his films. Creepy probably the next one I'll watch and eventually the remake he did of Serpent's Path

I really liked this one. I may be getting them mixed up but isn’t this the one with the wild ending?

You are truly in for a treat with your next two KK viewings!

Yeah it was definitely not what I expected to happen in the last moments, I'll just say the water bowl as to not ruin the ending for anyone who might watch

any films of his that you feel are overlooked that you would recommend?

I feel like his last one, Cloud is really underrated, I found it fascinating and again the final scene blew me away. I remember being very impressed with Charisma, a very strange film. Doppleganger is obvs a must watch, Loft is really good and typically slow burn and strange. The TV series Penance is very good and disturbing. Loved Eyes of the Spider, and Tokyo Sonata is a great film, a non-genre film drama.

I have Penance on my watch list on Kanopy - just need to set the time to be able to watch all of the episodes.

Penance and Loft I haven't seen, I'll add those to the queue

Was quite surprised to see Criterion pick up Cloud but I'm glad to see it. I'll grab a copy at some point for a rewatch

Still need to watch a lot of Kurosawa’s movies… @inksb I see you watched The Last Dragon. That looks like a really fun movie.

I am trying to watch most Oscar nominated movies. Really loved Hamnet. But turned off Train Dreams after 15 minutes. However I want to give it another change because people apparently rate it incredibly high.
F1 was mindless and cliched fun. Like Top Gun for cars.
Need to revisit Sinners. Only watched it once when it came out. Hope it wins though. Felt like the most original movie of the bunch.
Also loved One Battle After Another and Sentimental Value.

Still need to watch Frankenstein, The Secret Agent and Marty Supreme.

@bez The Last Dragon is one of those movies I watched endlessly when I was a kid. It was one of the first martial arts films I watched, think I was 5 when I first saw it? It's really fun and cheesy movie that I recommend to pretty much anyone who has mild interest in 80's action and martial arts. The martial arts scenes are nothing special, it's pretty basic compared to most stuff of that era but it works for what they need

I watched Exit 8 tonight and was really impressed with it. Wasn't sure if the concept could hold up for the run time but it definitely does

And I watched Creepy from Kurosawa and was pretty floored by it. I was not expecting that, kind of threw it on last night thinking I'd fall asleep and finish it the next day, it sucked me right in. Creepy is a very apt title for the film

Did my first 4DX, saw Send Help last night. Really fun ride. For once the post-converted 3D actually impressed me (I’m very picky about my 3D…)

Raimi really knows how to put this kind of film together - the script is just fine but his usual EC comics tone and flourishes really plussed it up, and both leads had great comic slapstick moments. Watch out for Campbell cameo at the start!
