October Dreams is a good Halloween anthology put together by Cemetery Dance. Short stories and favorite Halloween memories from a ton of authors. My copy isn't signed, just a trade HB and I'm about 2/3rd through. Devil's Creek is my first Keisling and I really liked it. Small town horror, religion gone bad/cults, and a bit of cosmic/HP Lovecraft. This one is a keeper and I'm looking forward to reading more from him.

diving into book 4 in the Matthew Corbett series. Robert McCammon is just so, so good. Can't recommend him enough if you have never read anything by him.

Tim, I've shied away from these as the first one seems to be a kind of historical fiction, adventure series but as they go on they seem darker...am I way off on these?

No, that's pretty much right. I understand your reservation about the first book, Speaks the Nightbird, I had them too the first time I read it. But don't let the "historical fiction" label put you off. It's a good murder mystery tied up in witchcraft conspiracy with an eclectic cast of characters. If you like Robert McCammon you should really give it a try. And if you're wanting to read the series I highly recommend starting at the beginning. And yes, the further along the books go the darker they get. I've started rereading the series because the final book, Leviathan, is getting released in December. If you decide to dive in let me know how it goes. :)

Half way through book book 5 with Matthew Corbett. I'm also reading the short stories Robert McCammon wrote in the time frame of the books.

These do sound more intriguing as the series goes, i did see the final installment was just released this week......also finished his novel MINE last week....man what a character he created in Mary Terror. I loved, LOVED all the 60's & 70's counterculture subplots and background

I just got my trade edition of the last installment this past week. A limited signed edition is scheduled for Q1 of next year from Lividian Press.

MINE is really good! I haven't read it since it was initially published but that opening chapter really stuck with me. I think it would make a great limited series. Unless they ruined it like they did his book Stinger, which was the Teacup series on Peacock.

I haven't watched TEACUP, I'm curious but haven't read Stinger yet either so no rush. Yours is actually the first reaction I've seen to the series at all....but yeah that first chapter, that's what hooked me. I stacked up three of his novels I had on hand to read the opening lines and see which one ignited my brain....and MINE was on the bottom of the stack because the jacket copy just didn't scream READ IMMEDIATELY but holy shit was I wrong

This will finish out 2024 for me. All the Matthew Corbett books are really good, some just better than others. This one is on the better side.

I read Mister Magic over my break last week, it's a spin on the creepypasta about the children's show people remember but there is no documented history of. While a clever spin on it, the writing was mediocre and I was barely engaged in the characters. Also pretty much nothing happens until the final act of the book.

I'm now on to reading Lord of the Rings, it's been a good 15 years since I last read it and have had the itch for a while. My mom also bought the new reprint of the illustrated version from the 70's so it's perfect timing

Took a small trip to Ohio with my family this weekend, found a signed copy of Night Film by Marisha Pessl at a local used bookstore....anybody read this one? A little over a hundred pages in and completely mesmerized.......

"....a 2013 mystery thriller follows journalist Scott McGrath as he becomes obsessed with the death of a troubled young woman, Ashley, and her reclusive filmmaker father. McGrath suspects the death is not a suicide and is drawn into the world of the girl's father, a legendary cult horror director....."

I haven't read it, but I have the paperback version -- a birthday gift from my sister. Glad to hear that you're enjoying it. I'll have to move it up in my queue.

Sounds interesting. Adding to my list as well.

I also went to the local shop with the kid over winter break and picked up a couple used books that have been on my reading list. Miéville's Railsea and PKD's The Man in the High Castle.

Nice! I'm curious about the paperbacks, the quality of the pictures, & i guess for lack of a better phrase supplement materials on that quality of paper....there's web pages, newspaper articles, photographs, all in stunning detail. They really went all out on the presentation.

I picked up my copy of The Man In The High Castle right after Christmas, tge urge to read more PKD strengthens every year....but I think that's the one, dedicated to his wife....."without whose silence this book never would have been written...."

The paperback has the various web pages, articles, etc. Although the pages are of decent size, I'd like it to be a little bigger. Also, the page margins close to the spine are small. Given that the book has a lot of pages, you need to adjust the page as you read so you can see the text (or start to break the spine).

So I'm about half way through Fellowship of the Ring, I haven't read LotR in well over 15 years it is such a joy to reread this. Although I always feel like my reading speed slows to a crawl when I read Tolkien
