Spawn is so bad. I wish it was better as it deserves better. Fortunately the HBO miniseries starring the one and only Keith David is amazing and makes up for this ones failures.

I knew it was not going to be good. But this bad I had not thought. Terrible movie.

It was a good time. I have not rewatched the first two Maniac Cop films since the early 90's, and it was fun to view them again with an audience that was into Larry Cohen/Bill Lustig NYC slasher stuff. It was interesting to see them back-to-back as MC2 picks up the story immediately by reshowing the ending of the first film again as the opener. Some great one-liners in these as well, especially MC2, some on purpose, and others likely unintentional but now hilarious. There was even a holiday/Christmas timeline in MC2 to keep it seasonal. Bruce Campbell does well in both of these films. Laurene Landon was lovely and although not the best storyteller, she shared a few good ones about performing her own stunts on various films. She mentioned that she always refused a stunt double and did them all herself. She also talked a bit about working with Cohen and her audition for ...All The Marbles along with months of wrestling training. It sounds like she was quite the athlete in her youth. To end the evening, the Maniac Cop rap boomed out from the theater sound system along with the credit roll.

^ that is a beautiful looking set @Inks. I should try some Jacky Chan. Have not seen a lot of him.

I watched this yesterday. It was not bad. Mediocre. A 6 maybe.

Treated myself to an Xmas rewatch of all the sequels in my favourite action series, M:I.

Funny thing - if I rank the sequels (putting M:I to one side for a minute), they are in exactly reverse order!

FALLOUT
ROGUE
GHOST
M:I 3
M:I 2

I can't think of another film series (in any genre) that gets better with each successive film. (I'm guessing there might be some who'd argue Mad Max, but that would mean ranking Thunderdome above the first two films, which is utter crazy talk. And also not for nothing, Road Warrior beats Fury Road ;-)

Btw, for completion sake I rank the
first M:I almost even with Fallout, maybe just below.

I think I rank the films almost exactly the same as you ScoJo with the exception of the first film which I never really cared for. That I would rank above 2 but below 3 :)

This a million times, Every new one that comes out I am in shock at how it’s better than the last. And really only 2 is sort of mediocre, the rest of them are all so much fun. (Except that very strange moment in either ghost or rogue where it was absolutely supposed to be Vanessa Redgrave returning as max and then…wasn’t)

Now as for Mad Max, I’d argue fury road beats road warrior depending on my mood, but I’m the rare man who still thinks the first one is the winner above all. Especially having lived through this vague end of the worldesque feeling for two years now the “the apocalypse is sort of happening around us and society is starting to collapse but we don’t really see it yet” vibe of the first one really hits home. Also The toecutter is the best villain he’s so upsetting and unpredictable and genuinely compelling to me.

Your MM points are duly noted, highly valued and very, very fair. I love the first flick - it's more of a revenge/exploitation flick imo, and the batshit action really explodes in RW, so they are same same but
different? And both incredible. I need to revisit FR. I have NEVER THUNDERDOMED!!

Thunder dome is shockingly out of place in that franchise, if you’ve made it this far I wouldn’t break your streak. I don’t even feel like he’s playing Max in that one, just sort of himself.

Yeah I've seen enough Thunderdome on TNT through the 90's to know I don't need to watch the whole movie. I love Fury Road though.

I've moved on to a rewatch of Jack Reacher - underrated imo, fun legal/action thriller with Cruise and McQuarrie wetting their beaks before cutting loose on M:I

We are aligned again this Christmas Eve. Jack Reacher is a fantastic flick the type they don’t make anymore, small stakes thriller with fun characters played by good actors. Bad guy Herzog? Sign me up! I’ve watched that movie like ten times.

I watched every M:I last year (or was it this year?) and agree with was is said above.
I need to revisit MM. I have seen Fury Road only once in the theater when it came out. Thunderdome has been a long long time.
Jack Reacher I have never seen. Sounds like fun.
