Since we mentioned New NIghtmare I thought I share this...these are the teeth from the demon Freddy head that I sculpted for the end scene of New Nightmare. The teeth have yellowed a a lot over the last 25 or more years. I might have something from ITMOM but that would require a real search.
That looks incredibly cool!!!!

Having rewatched the film myself in the last week or so, I know exactly where those chompers were used Evan! Very very cool.

Question for you - I’m curious about how often fx artists are able to keep screen-used pieces after the show (the ones that survive in one piece…) Is it fairly common that the big fx companies who hire artists on are all too happy for them to take stuff away, or not so much? Do artists generally have to be a bit more sneaky-pete about such things? ;) I guess keeping hold of moulds for things an artist has sculpted would be particularly useful? Or the original sculpt? Or maybe there’s an industry practice of those being kept by the fx companies themselves? I’m curious!

Thanks Bezzie!

Scott it was a bit loose in the nineties but the answer is no. You work for them and the studio owns that art.

I'm way behind on my movie posts. Here's a few from the last couple weeks.

Lamb dir by Valdimar Jóhannsson

While this movie is in my wheelhouse for weird arthouse shit, it did nothing for me. I was barely engaged in the story and main theme was so simple it was spelled out in the first 10 minutes and did nothing with it. We just watched these people exist with their "child" and live their day to day life. Then the ending happened. It was over and I just felt cold to the whole ordeal. Watch if you're curious but it's far from essential viewing.

Titane dir by Julia Ducournau

First thing I need to get out of the way, the Crash/Cronenberg comparisons that people have been on and on about with this one is so surface level it actually irritated me while watching the film. The film didn't irritate me just the fact that this film has some body horror in it and part of it deals with cars people immediately started saying it's just like Crash. It set very different expectations for the film that I wish I didn't have. That aside this film is fucking nuts and everyone should watch it. The first 30 minutes left me insanely uncomfortable and kind of squirming in my seat. Bravo to that, not many films can do that. After the first 30 minutes of complete fucking batshit stuff you are left with a little over an hour of a very weird but less wild ride. The film stuck the landing too. Between this film and Raw, Julia Ducournau has my full attention, I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.

Godzilla Vs Hedorah dir by Yoshimitsu Banno

I haven't seen this one in many years but was scrolling through HBO Max and decided to put it on late last night. I love Hedorah, he's one of my favorite monsters design wise. The film is actually really well paced with monster action for a Godzilla film, I found big G's overacting a bit much at times but the effects are really fun, I love all the forms of Hedorah and there's a lot of kaiju action to be had. Very fun rewatch for me.

The Deep House dir by Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury

From the directors of l'intérieur & Livide, this film is probably their weakest to date but still an enjoyable watch. A couple who travel the country side recording their exploration of potentially haunted or scary abandoned sites travel to a lake in France that houses the ruins of a flooded town beneath it's surface. What they think is going to be a secret secluded location is actually a hotspot for lake goers and water skiing enthusiasts. While getting some food and drinks the boyfriend chats up a local who tells him the underground ruins are shit in this area but agrees to take them to an unknown almost preserved house at a different area of the lake. The couple agree and set off to scuba dive through the house videotaping all the creepy shit they find. It's an underwater haunted house film, it has some really great ideas here that are not fully executed in an effective way. The boyfriend is a giant piece of shit who spends most of the film gaslighting and manipulating his girlfriend. You want him to die. Unfortunately underwater slow moving ghosts don't really come across well in this one so the scares are pretty minimal. I liked the film and encourage people to check it out but just know it's not entirely successful in what it attempts. It is a hybrid of traditional cinematography and found footage just to warm ahead of time so you are not surprised about it.

Thanks for the write ups @inskb. I still have not seen Raw…
Looking forward to Titane.

Did you watch Broadcast Signal Intrusion yet? I know nothing about it except that I thought I saw DWRC release the score? I have it ready to watch. Probably this Friday or Saturday.

Raw is very good, you should watch it @bez

I actually don't remember seeing anything about Broadcast Signal Intrusion, just checked out the trailer (well half of it, started to give too much away) and I'm intrigued. Going to check this out maybe this weekend?

After months of trying to convince my family to watch this one with me, including a groan-inducing viewing of the trailer after which they asked me, "you really think this looks good?", I replied positively, "fuck yes, it looks amazing." I finally booked some PTO and this was first up on the watch list even before Halloween Slaps:

The humor in the script delighted my forever kid brain. I thought the girl might annoy me but it was all good. All the ridiculous costumed aliens were like a mix of old Yokai monsters with early 80's scifi/fantasy monsters. This felt like a Saturday afternoon gore film for (big) kids. Loved it.

The Fly II
dir by Chris Walas

It's been a really long time since I've seen this and basically remembered nothing but the cactus and dog. It's not a great film but it is an incredible special effects show case. Looking at Chris Walas career and one can see why, he's a special effects guy. He only directed two films, this and Vagrant with Bill Paxton (which is pretty ok). The film is too long and a bit meandering in the middle but when it's moving the story along it's entertaining. The actual story they came up with for a sequel to The Fly is absurd but it was the 80's so what ever. I'm glad I revisited this. Fun little fact that I discovered, my wife was traumitized by the dog scenes when she was a little kid. This film unlocked those memories from a long time ago, we've been together 17 years and never once has this come up.

Squid Game created by Hwang Dong-hyuk

I watched the recent "Netflix hit series" which I normally wouldn't care about but I love Korean cinema and wanted to see what it was all about. It's a decent take on the "put humans into shitty situation and see how they act" genre. It's hyper violent, borrows heavily from Battle Royale and has a great cast. Unfortunately for me the last episode really took the steam right out of the series for me. On top of it being insanely long winded in it's conclusion/s (think about how Return of the King should have ended then went on for another 30-40 minutes) it has a moment that completely invalidates the best moment of the entire series. I don't want to spoil it but I'm gonna speak vaguely here, if you haven't watched it and plan to just stop reading. There is an episode that fucking gutted me, left me feeling like shit, exactly how the main character was feeling. It's completely negated and I'm blown away they actually thought it was a "clever" reveal. It bugged me so much it soured me on the experience of the show.

watching the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

it made me so happy. they did this really meta extended end credit sequence where Larry and Jeff go to the symphony. It's a concert conducted by Luciano Michelini. The orchestra plays a live version of Il Barone Rosso, and Larry & Jeff sit and watch while credits flash on top of the image.
