I did not think I would like it as much as I did. I watched the directors cut at 142 minutes in stead of 110. It took me the first 30 minutes to get into it though...
The CGI effects I thought I remembered were the 'video game' sections when they are using the virtual reality technology. Those effects didn't take me out of the movie as some bad CGI might do. At the end there were some effects that weren't too great.
The story is fairly simple: scientist (Pierce Brosnan) knows how to train the brain by use of virtual technology. Of course the government wants to use this technology for creating monkey war machines. Something goes wrong. The scientist uses his technology on the Lawnmower Man (Jeff Fahey) who has an IQ of 45. His brain ends up becoming so powerful that a lot of shit happens :-)
Bez thanks for the breakdown...it sounds fun. For some reason I mixed this up with a film called brainscan

You know, I think this has my favorite Carpenter score. I’m likely to change that opinion several times a day, but this is the one I come back to most often, and is the one that I listen to when I need to take a long walk and reset my head a little. For a film with its content and themes, it really has some of his most mellow melodies.

I gave my brother copies of In The Mouth of Madness and Prince of Darkness last year, he finally watched them this week. He loved Madness a lot. He enjoyed Darkness too but thought it was a little on the slow side.

Tell me you worked on that gadawful piece of haunted celluloid, EC?! :)

Does remind me that in my youth, I made a (mercifully short) appearance in this hometown Midlands SoV sci-fi splatter epic that featured a psychic demon space baby…

I might skip Village/Damned and go straight to Ghosts. I don’t hate Village but I did rewatch it not so long ago, whereas I happily rewatch GoM on the regular. Would love to do it in a rowdy, packed theatrical setting one day!

Unfortunately that honor goes to an artist named Gabe Bartalos who just recently dazzled Bez with his Leprechaun makeup

Here’s a list the rest of the movies I’ve been enjoying this fine season.

-Aenigma
-Without Warning
-The Night Evelyn came out of the grave
-Alone in the Dark
-The Dentist
-Scary Stories to tell in the dark
-Edge of the Axe
-Slumber Party Massacre (2021)
-Exorcist III
-Butcher, Baker, Nightmare maker
-Halloween Kills
-Bloody Moon
-Re-Animator (Integral Cut)
-Two Evil Eyes
-The Seventh Sign + White Noise
-WNUF Halloween Special

For the most part I’ve enjoyed everything I watched. Some more than others. I felt the seventh sign didn’t really feel like a horror movie so I had a little double feature. I’m sure this has been discussed but Halloween Kills does not work as a Halloween movie and would of made a better instalment in the Friday the 13th franchise. By far the best part to me was the Coupe de Villes nod. The movie I liked the least was Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker, man does that movie not age well or what. The blatant bigotry was a bit much for me, it’s not great. I’m planning on going to the theatre tomorrow with my wife to go see Last night in soho so that should be fun.

Sadly (?) I didn’t make the trailer cut. And the full movie has not yet surfaced (?) online. Again, probably… mercifully. I played a cinema owner who had to ask a crew of noisy white boy dreadlocked gangsters to please be quiet, getting shot in the face for my troubles. I did my own stunt flying over a few rows of seats, fucking up my back. And they cut it so poorly you couldn’t tell that it was me anyway. The movies!! 🤣
