Blue Velvet

I was listening to this a few days ago and realized that is was very crackly in tracks 1, 3 & 4. So I decided to give it a good cleaning last night and almost all of it is gone. With headphones on you can hear a little surface noise in the background but honestly it's a pretty beat up record and sounds way better than I expected it to after cleaning it up . I am showing the film to my wife tonight!

Inks, I’m bringing a stack of records up to get cleaned, I’ll be there in <checks watch> 6 hours I think.

Seriously though, I need to invest in one of those.

I got nothing else going on these days, drinking, eating and cleaning records party.

Yeah, it really is worth it. I've been putting it off for years and finally committed due to having some extra cash from my weekend gig. Two saturdays worth of work and I paid it off. It is not fast though, it's slow methodical work. But I just put some headphones on and get to it for a bit.

Nice one @red my copy is on its way. How does it sound?

@inks I’ve saw your post about your record cleaning machine and I’m thinking it’s something I really should invest in. I should do a little homework and see what’s out there. So far worth every penny?

Speaking of record cleaning, my copy of "Alice, Sweet Alice" needs it. Or, at least I hope that's all it needs. It's a bit noisy, especially at the end of each side. Seems typical of Waxwork releases, though. On the plus side, the music is great. Interestingly, the score has a motif that, to me, sounds a bit like "(I'm Gettin') Nuttin' for Christmas."

For record cleaning, I use the Squeaky Clean, and I've liked its results so far.

Thanks for sharing @red sorry to hear about Alice hopefully a little cleaning is all you need :)

I quickly checked the link. Looks interesting you say you use this product? Fairly easy to use? Same question to you @inks is your cleaner user friendly?

I would say mine is very easy to use. The one @red posted was one I considered buying at one point too. The Squeaky Clean is probably the best for the money but you have to do it all by hand. I had an even more basic version of the Squeaky Clean called Vinyl-Vac. It worked but became more and more of a pain to deal with.

The ones that have a motor run usually around $500+, the Okki Nokki is probably the best reviewed from what I found. VPI and Nitty Gritty as well. There's the Record Doctor, I think they have a newer version but when I read about it years ago it had mold issues due to moisture inside. I would assume that's been fixed in subsequent versions but honestly never looked into it. Like I said in the other thread I went with the Pro-Ject VCE due to it's size and my space limitations. So far it's been great.

I'm a happy Okki Nokki owner. had if for a number of years, and earlier this year the motor in mine went belly up and even though I was out of warranty ON fixed it for chump change.

My Squeaky Clean experience has been fine so far. It's pretty easy, but as Inks mentioned, it's all manual. It takes a few minutes to set up, and you need some space to run it. You have a tube going from the SC to a wet-dry vac, so it's not a compact operation. However, from the price and the results that I get, I'm happy with it.

Just to add to the convo, I'm really pleased over all with my system, the 'BackOfTheHand-o-Matic'

It's very cost effective, extremely convenient and portable, and always to hand (unless there is a beer or vegan hotdog in it...)

The only downside is it's wildly ineffective for cleaning records, but aside from that - no complaints!

The outstanding question is, where can CrossedPete get his own ScoJo hand?

I looked into getting a BackOfTheHand-o-Matic but it’s just not for me. I guess Ill keep doing what I’m doing.

Mayhem - Steven Moore

I haven't heard this score in a while and it's much better than I remembered. Funny little story about the production of the film, Joe Lynch the director pronounced it "MAY-HAM" all through production and into the months of promoting it, his friend and podcast co-host, Adam Green, finally called him out on saying it wrong the whole time and it was quite funny to hear them argue and make fun of it.
