Inks - Fair point made about Godzilla films in the past thirty years. I was hastily referring to these past few American-made versions and the Jean Reno flick. I can't speak to any Japanese or other international productions.

I assumed you meant the American stuff. But some of the best Godzilla films were made in the early to mid 90's. And even the late 90's/early 00's one's are decent, mostly mid tier in the overall time line but far from the worst.

One thing that so many people fail to remember about Godzilla films, they are generally 60-85% trash human stories (usually boring as well) with fun monster battles. Even the old classics are that way. Hell Shin Godzilla which seemed to get universal praise was fairly boring for 50% of it's run time due to nonsense political melodrama

Young ScoJo and I were discussing the absolute merits and pondering the relative underappreciation of the films of one Mr Anthony David Scott this afternoon when we suddenly found ourselves hatching a cunning plan. We intend to individually watch, not sync, the films of Tony Scott in chronological order and share our thoughts here afterwards. We will be viewing the films on the same day, but, again, not syncing. The ultimate goal, aside from thorough enjoyment and internet camaraderie, will be to establish our own personal rankings of Scott's films. We'd love any and all to join in and bask in all of the Scotty wonder. We propose beginning tomorrow (Sunday) with a double bill of the until recently unavailable short film, One Of The Missing, and 1983's The Hunger starring - oh, heck, you all know what The Hunger is. The Untitled Tony Scott Project will include only films he has directed. The videos for George Michael's One More Try and Kenny Loggins's Highway To The Danger Zone will also be included. lastly, we will be strongly encouraging the director's cuts for both Revenge and Crimson Tide. I've just recently watched the hunger, but this is almost ALWAYS a true statement for me and can readily discuss it at the drop. I've also just done Beverly Hills 2, which i love.

As I teased to you earlier Mateo, here is my little one-degree-of-separation TS story.

A girl I worked with on a feature film crew told me about her start in the film business. She worked her way into directing and eventually got a gig shooting something at Scott's production company. On her first day of filming, she received a bouquet of flowers from TS with a card attached, that said just one word:

Kill.

To this day, a couple of us from that shoot quote this message to each other, like a magical invocation.

I will try to follow along. I can honestly say that while I've seen a ton of Tony's films I feel like I don't really have a grasp on his career and have meant to do something very similar so this should be quite fun.

I'm really looking forward to looking at all of these with a pair of fresh eyes and ranking them within Scott's oeuvre as well as considering where Scott belongs in my own personal pantheon of film-helmers.

I was just moving a bunch of molds I had in storage today and some of them were from the original make-ups from The Hunger. These are the hand molds for the 120 year old makeup and the foam pieces...still incredibly soft after 40 year's. Also a side of the face cheek and jowl piece for the 85 year make up. These were really beautiful makeups. Might try and watch the films along with you folks.
Odd how we are all thinking about The Hunger today.

Im in as long as I have access to the films I will add my 2 cents where I can.

Watched Kong vs Godzilla last night. For what it is I thought it was a fun watch. It’s definitely not perfect by any stretch but it was fun none the less. I got to say though I’m not too pleased with modern movies. I find most of them look like Mexican soap operas. For instance in KvG any scene with Millie Bobby Brown i wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a big budget motion picture and an episode of Stargate from the 90s.

I believe if you Google Soap Opera effect and your telly model, you'll find a fairly easy fix for that in the settings of your set. Sadly, GvK is not so easily remedied.

Well, I used to pair it with my other favorite 90s buddy cop sci-fi flick, Split Second, and it was an exquisite experience so I'll hope that you're doing the same. But perhaps my backup guess is Universal Soldier for no reason in particular.

So just looked up Split Second as I’ve never even heard about it....looks like I have another to add to my watch list. It does seem to be a fitting companion. I’ve been slowly picking up/updating my JCVD collection and I still don’t have a copy of Universal Soldier(not on vhs). Which is a crime as it was one of my faves in days past. You’ll just have to wait and see although I like both of your pics they really seem to complement Dark Angel. I kinda think that might be a fun idea to throw out a movie and ask for suggestions for a double feature, as both of your pics might of been better choices then what I’m planning on watching.

Agreed, I don’t think of him the way I think of his brother and yet every now and then it occurs to me how many films he really made and how much I enjoy most of them, this will be good to sort of codify that more clearly.

This seems to be a theme for pandemic living, a good friend is currently working his way through de Palma, and it’s been a treat showing him some things

I’m looking forward to the tony Scott project it should be a lot of fun. To refresh my memory I looked up his movies on IMDB and of course I’ve watched a lot of his movies, not all but most. I recorded the fan (1981) on my tv last week as I still haven’t seen it yet. To my surprise it was actually the 96 movie decided to watch the movie again as I’ve seen it countless times already. It’s been a couple years though. Maybe it’s because I’m older or maybe cause I have kids now, I feel I really enjoyed it on a different level. So I’m looking forward to rewatching mr Scott’s other movies with new set of eyes.
