For fans of 90's psych-drone artyfacts: Spectrum's Soul Kiss/ Glide Divine - a totally clear 12" record in a transparent op-art, goo filled, PVC poly bag that smells like the vinyl-iest thing on the planet and sounds like Jesus shoegazing his sandals into oblivion:

Matched 20 years later by RSD release 'Sixteen Saltines' from Third Man Records, which ingeniously inverts this process by moving the goo from the outer bag to the inside of the actual record. Pretty cool (although musically not my cup of tea)

According to good ol' Wikipedia the whole 'liquid vinyl' thing was considered by Disney back in '79 for the Black Hole OST release but they had too many problems with leaks. It's a neat idea, but I think I'd much prefer several different colours swirling and mixing together, just watching a bit of blue get spread out by centrifugal force doesn't hold that much appeal to me outside the general insanity of having liquid inside a record.

If you head to this page and scroll all the way down there are a few copies still available that he recently got back after a lengthy dispute with an old distro. I believe they're a standard black vinyl pressing rather than the lovely marble shown above but given the effort required to put each one together they won't be getting re-pressed again.

The album is The Long Forgotten Friend by Dreamend. I recommend taking the time to see if anything else there catches your eye, I own almost everything the label has ever put out (bar a few things already OOP when I discovered them) and all of it is top notch. Pretty eclectic range of stuff too.

Got it! Didn't have the cool sticker on the cover though and didn't even know it had it and when I pulled it out to look at the condition of the vinyl and BAM...etching...very cool!

Not quite as outlandish, but that just reminded me of a Mo Wax release my mate had of Money Mark's Push the Button, with the album tracks spread across a 12", a 10" and a 7" - all housed in a gatefold sleeve.

The track listing was on a rotating wheel that displayed one track name at a time in a little window on the back cover, and also told you which record to find it on. As well as being a great record, it's quite lovely and totally bizarre.

I think there's a little more demand for the SST version. I pretty sure Sonic Youth had two record contracts going at the same time. Blast First for the the European market and SST for the US market. Is that a repress or an original from the 1980's? The only one that I've ever seen was released on SST and is a grey vinyl. It can go for some money on bid sites. I know EVOL, and Sister were released on both labels. Never seen a Blast First version of Lee's first album. That's really cool. Thanks for sharing.

Boyd Rice released an early 7" with an off-center hole.

RRRecords has done 7" & LP compilations that were nothing but lock grooves (I was on the 7").

The Haters did an LP that played from the inside out.

Got some UR stuff with locked grooves and one that plays back to front, from memory. Think I also have one that plays different songs depending on where you drop the needle.
