Heyya guys!

Was wondering if we could come up with a list of soundtrack LPs -- or even bootlegged ones, that include dialogue from the film along with the music. One of my favorite movie-related albums is Brigante Breaks (http://www.discogs.com/Boba-Fettucini-C ... ase/863563) - a Boba Fettucini break album that lifts a ton of dialogue from Carlito's Way (a personal fave) and intersperses it with quite righteous beats. I highly recommend the album as it's a blast to listen to. The guy has a few other ones out there that I'll pick up if the price is right, but it got me thinking of soundtracks that do similar things.

Of course, there's Tarantino OSTs, and the few Carpenter ones (Escape and Fog) that were released with some dialogue snippets. How about any more? Definitely looking for ones on vinyl, but we can open it up if need be. I should recheck my Indiana Jones Story records out along with some of the old Disney record+book 45rpm releases that I have lying around. I've been annoyed at some releases in the past for layering on the dialogue over the music (in Danger Diabolik's case there was no choice), but recently I've seen an interesting merit in them as well -- especially ones that just include dialogue snippets. Gotta think there are unique ones out there that the fine folks who peruse Spin the Blackest Circles can point my way. At the very least it's an interesting topic starter.

My Night of the Living Dead on Varese Sarabande has a little bit of dialogue included. Some of the radio broadcasts, a couple of movie lines. Well worth the find if you can track it down!

The Apocalypse Now soundtrack (A nice gatefold double LP)is just as much dialogue as music. It's basically a 90 minute audio version of the film.

The Apoclypse Now Redux soundtrack (not sure if it was released on vinyl) is all music however.

The Carpenter Darkstar record has some dialogue on it...but I would honestly say that record is for completists only....

or the last track on the fight club ost, also on the lost highway soundtrack are some snippets

The opening track on the Stoker soundtrack is the voiceovers which opens the film. Wonderfully spooky.

The Warriors has some dialogue on the Soundtrack. "Caaaann Yoooouuu Diig It!"
Halloween 3 of course has the Silver Shamrock commercial.
I'll throw in some more when they come to mind.

Oh that Frankenstein is a great one. Apparently "Legend of The Seven Golden Vampires" is a bit of a humdinger for dialogue and soundtrack. Lots of sledged cabbages and other Kung fu sound effects as well.

Got a bootleg of "The Warriors" with a lot of snippets. Also a few looped re-edits along with the full tracks off the official OST

I have a LOT of unreleased scores ripped from all kinds of sources, and many by their nature include dialogue. It can sometimes be really interesting hearing the scores in that way, as well as frustrating of course. I think the first vinyl release of the Wicker Man by Trunk is a good example - all taken from a print of some kind. But it was the only way to have the music until the later release which used the masters. Some people actually prefer the former. I recall Trish Keenan from Broadcast mentioning this in a few interviews (and her liner notes for the Finders Keepers "Valerie" OST...she claimed personal ownership of the music/imaginative experience due to not sharing her ripped music tape with others). I have a series of cassettes from my teens, all film music ripped from VHS and TV, many of which I've slowly over the years picked up official vinyl scores of - but not all Interested to know what others feel about it. Anyhow, here's a couple I have off the top of my head that fit Jeremy's original description (and, if anyone's interested in a list/doing swaps, I'm down with that!)

Two unreleased, experimental 70s scores from Altman's weirdest phase:
THREE WOMEN (Gerald Busby) Astonishing atonal dream waves
QUINTET (Tom Pierson) Glacial orchestral sci-fi, the opening theme is breathtaking

SHUTTERED ROOM (Basil Kirchin) Legend has it that Jonny Trunk is sitting on a couple dozen privately pressed LPs! :/

CUTTER'S WAY (Jack Nitzsche) Incredible film and score.

Life of Brian soundtrack and Japanese release of King Kong vs. Godzilla (Starchild) are some sort of a digest audio version of the whole films.
A bit of a disappointment for the second one when I realised it, I must say (but the object is beautiful).

Maniac (Varèse Sarabande) has some of creepy bits

plus you can find some gems on storybook records... all those 'read-along' 7" singles that came out have dialog on them (I've got a Raiders of the Lost Ark one that's missing the book)... but Disney also released things like The Black Hole and Tron as both soundtracks, and versions that tell the story of the film... the Tron one has some fantastic bits on it.

The Enigma picture disc version of The Return of the Living Dead soundtrack includes dialogue snippets between tracks. It's fantastic, and most of the snippets are the "classic" lines from the film. It's the rip I have on my computer, and probably the most entertaining version of the soundtrack.

The 20th anniversary CD release of Carpenter's Halloween contained dialogue and this rare as hen's teeth Japanese LP of it did too:

I have to admit, Poledouris's Conan intro does it for me. "...let me tell you of the days of high adventure!". One of my all time favourite soundtracks. I have been known to play air warrior timpani while on the headphones after a beer or two, but don't tell anybody.

Angel Heart has lots if dialogue. It's one of those "over the music" kind of soundtracks but its really well produced and it creates an all over storybook type feel. The soundtrack is really really good. Lots of New Orleans jazz and Creole music and some synth thrown in. Top Notch!
