This might have taken longer to journey from the US to the UK Midlands than it took James Whale's career to do the reverse trip, but daaaaaamn. This may just be one of the most beautiful records in my collection.

Admittedly I love the film, and maybe musically it's pretty much that old-timey scoring that could be equally for a pirate picture at times, but there are also some great, iconic cues which it's a real treat to finally have the restored, original recordings on vinyl. That main theme! <3 <3 <3 It's been referenced a few times by other composers - a fave is by Goldsmith in Small Soldiers!

Aside: James Whale was from my neck of the woods - I used to run an arts cinema which was next door to the repertory theatre where he started out acting in/directing plays. I've also DJ'd a few times at horror screenings in the grounds of a castle where as a young man Whale used to sit sketching. I should really give Gods and Monsters another watch!

I love seeing @Static spin 'De Lift' so often. Unbelievable I still do not own a copy myself.

And @reddye6 I have never heard about that one... What type of score is it? And movie?

Nice pics and story @ScoJo. I need to get a copy of Bride at one point.

picked this one up from the postal office just now:

@bex, I enjoy seeing @static spin that one also :)
VFW is really good. If you're a Steve Moore fan and don't have it already I recommend checking out Moore's Camera Obscura. You can only purchase it on Amazon but I think you can give it a listen on spotify and youtube. David got it for me for Christmas and it's been on the table a few times already.

Thanks for the tip. I do like Steve Moore. I only have Cub and The Guest besides VFW.

VFW indeed is a great listen.

I don't know much about the film. It does seem like the typical "woman struggles to survive from a killer" horror film. I got the score because I have the composer's "Worry Dolls" OST CD (Screamworks) and liked it. Back when Screamworks/MovieScore Media released CDs, I got introduced to a number of film composers who would go on to more acclaim (e.g., Jeff Grace, Daniel Pemberton, Johan Soderqvist).

The film music is a mix of classical elements and electronics. It's a bit brooding and moody. It's good, but I wouldn't call it essential.

Gorky Park is so good. I've been streaming the extended edition a lot lately at work.
