@jmctodo - I'm just not a fan of Mondo or how they do things.

Layne, I think the days of severely limited numbers of mondo releases are gone.

And I haven't bothered with most of the modern mondo scores.

@lazyben - yeah, i need to change my tune from being a low level completist (only have one version of each release) to just buying what i will listen to. i'm just not really interested in this at all.

I have never been a mondo completist as they've released things I am really not interested in or am pretty sure I would dislike (cough linkin park cough). Some great stuff though.

Death Waltz is a lot more reliable as far as I'm concerned.

This is the change in outlook I undertook recently. With the increased amount of records being released its become about the music and nothing more now - which is a much more satisfying approach to have in terms of wondering whether I should have spent my cash on a record or not.

With the increased number of specialist labels releasing scores on vinyl, and the output of those labels seemingly increasing too (Mondo - four releases in 3 weeks...), plus RSD coming up, it just seems pointless trying to be completist with any label. Its inevitable that any label will put out some scores or records that aren't of interest to me musically. I now take the approach of; would I buy the record if it was released on Warner or Columbia, if it was only on black vinyl or in uninteresting packaging before deciding whether to purchase a Mondo or DW or any other record. If the answer's no, then I won't purchase.

Well, I have to say that I waited for this on vinyl, I really enjoyed the soundtrack! I am not the one who says that old soundtracks are better than newer stuff, simply I love good music and in my opinion Gravity it's a great score (don't forget that has won not only an Oscar but also other prizes!). Anyway Mondo have released so many good albums (well, The Raid apart...) and as a sci-fi fanatic I will buy definitely this one! ;)

The fact that it won an Oscar actually makes me less interested to hear it.

Well said simonsj, I heartily concur. Two exceptions though; DW - because they haven't released anything yet that I've not wanted, and Trunk - because I'm too far in now after many years! :P

For me it is ininfluent (I have only stated that has won some prizes, which means all or nothing) but I have listened and liked it!

either way, with the number of these that they will be making, it shouldn't be hard to get one for a fair price (maybe less than initial retail) if anyone ended up not getting it tomorrow, but decided to pick it up later.

It just seems like such a boring soundtrack with boring artwork. It feels and looks like a rushed thing to just capitalize, or maybe was part of another deal they signed up for? Who knows. Maybe this is the way mondo wants to go. Regardless, this is almost as dull to me as the raid. I will definitely skip this, but more power to anyone that's into it picking it up. No reason these soundtrack labels have to stick to reissues, I just find modern scores to be typically very dry and emotionless.

$30.00
- Not for Sale

As I alluded to earlier, count me amongst the folks that'll skip this release (my first Mondo miss). Just not in like with the score here. Unlike most Mondo releases, at least I could stream this soundtrack before making my decision (something they really should rectify). If the completest in me starts to freak out down the road, I'll bet this can be had for $25 in the not too distant future. A perfect example, by the bye, of a standard colorway (black) that'll probably look far superior to the variant since it'd suit the film so much better. Unless they steal DW's glitter idea. They haven't announced the variant yet as you can see above. Hmm...

I hear that @layne.

I wasn't that bothered with Blue Sunshine as I've never heard it but through looking for something else on the bay I picked one up for I think $13!

If I see this going cheap I'll get it.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they are doing the preorder thing. Seems weird to me. :/ Maybe they aren't planning on doing the pressing now because of RSD?

This is more apropos for the General Vinyl page, but since quite a number of people have said that they weren't going to buy Gravity, I wanted to offer you something else to purchase.

The Eccentronic Research Council have a new album out that is quite fun: "Magpie Billy & The Egg that Yolked(A Study of the Northern Ape in Love)." Their previous album, "1612 Underture" was on Finders Keepers. Their music has a dark Radiophonic feel to it, mixed with sound poem narration. Their previous album was about witches; the new one is about the character Magpie Billy and his unwholesome interest in a couple that move into the neighborhood. There are some good bits in their about record collections as well. I find ERC to be similar to Moon Wiring Club.

I've no relation to the ERC. I quite enjoyed it and thought this forum might as well. Plus, my LP had issues when it arrived, and one of the ERC was prompt in responding and sending out a new version. Another musical group that deserves the support it can get.
