This is how I felt about hereditary and imagine how I will feel if I ever bother to watch this.


Minor stranger things spoiler for those who care:






Stranger things 3 is a joy for those that like it, but the cherry on the Sundae is the opening of the season being them sneaking into a Day of the Dead screening. You could tell they really wanted a way to do a “zombie movie” thing this time around and I like the way they did it. AND pulling in Harrison’s score over a scene the way they did with carpenters EFNY in season 2 was great. Overall very pleased.

My family just knocked this out over the weekend, and we had a great time watching it. I also greatly enjoyed the Day of the Dead scene, and also noted that Will was running a zombie campaign in their D&D game. Did you see The Stuff on the theatre marquee in the last episode? ;) I felt the gore factor was ramped up for TV14 and had my fam squirming, haha. Always love seeing The Thing and Evil Dead posters much more than the gratuitous food and beverage nostalgia, although the 80's clothes and hairstyles are spot-on. Enjoyed the discussion of Carpenter's The Thing versus the original film, although nobody liked "new" Coke that I knew of. ;) Maya Hawke as Robin was delightful, and it's amazing how much she looks like her parents. Felt like it was trying to wrap things up on all their childhoods, but the majority here think Hopper is in that Soviet prison cell.

@deaf I always like to look at what’s missing from nostalgia fests. Stranger Things 3 has the weird shopping mall with I would say gratuitous Burger King backdrops. But clearly no McDonalds. Likewise zero soft beverages, large sporting brands, electronics or even cars. I’m sure it will make a few college course lectures! I’m sure those corporates would love to stamp their version of history.

@max, I haven't watch ST S3 yet but if you are saying that the mall only had BK and no McDonalds, I had a mall similar to that while growing up in the late 80's early 90's. There was a McDonalds across the street but they were not in the food court of the mall.


I've been wanting to watch this since seeing the trailer premiere a few months ago. I have to give Netflix credit for not spoiling anything from the film and making me think it was something different than it actually was. Overall I found it pretty entertaining with a good cast, it has a few issues here and there and I think it could have been pushed a little farther into the weird but it's good enough to recommend to others who are looking for a twisting and turning thriller. The biggest problem I had with it is pretty minor and that's the stupid rewind scenes, instead of just flashing back to show you what happened that you didn't see the first time they just rewind everything you saw and show it to you again, it's a waste of time and looks dumb, a cut to black, slow fade into the same scene would have worked just fine.

@inksb yes you’re right there were always McDonald’s around somewhere. My point is, only Burger King paid to have full frontal shots in a prime time summer tv smash hit, so they paid to establish their version of history. The first time I ever noticed this kind of shenanigans was Fight Club where Ed Norton mumbles about Planet Starbucks and bringing down the worlds credit system. Why would Starbucks want to be seen so negatively? It’s because they establish themselves as a major player in people’s minds. And when you watch it back now, you would assume their dominance was accepted but in London we didn’t have many if any coffee shops of this type until about ten years later. I visited the Brandenburg Gate in 2002 and there was a brand new one on the entrance to east Germany right where checkpoint charlie was. But if you had no idea about the history you’d just assume it had been there forever

I get what you're saying. Even though it's not rewriting history but more just absurdist advertising, it always cracked me up in Demolition Man with Taco Bell (or outside of the US they changed it to Pizza Hut).

I do like Michael Douglas. Have to say.
Also I am adding The Rainmaker to the list. Don't think I have ever seen it, but Google just now pointed it out while searching for Michael Douglas (who is not in the Rainmaker... I think).

Rainmaker is hugely enjoyable, that would feature highly on my different list- of legal thrillers! Do love DeVito and Rourke in that.

I bought it so it shows all of the tracks available, if it's only select tracks let me know and I can send you the digital files. I've been through it once and enjoyed it but if I'm being honest it was background music while I was making dinner and do some stuff around the house.

@monster - to be fair, I'm watching this for the first time as a grown-ass man, and found the film to be pretty dreadful - I have no nostalgia-feels for either the movie nor the score. The music was just the irritating icing on the cake for me!

I certainly wouldn't recommend either way on the record, I love what TV do and generally if I'm unfamiliar with a release I'm almost always pleasantly surprised. This one is just a hard pass for me. Damn, wish I'd seen it when I was a joy-filled, open minded teen ;D

Oh I finished TYtDO, alright. Holy fuckballs, what a thing. I've had a few friends with same reaction: I loved it, but I also feel some shame about that love? It's a very difficult piece to recommend to others that's for sure.
And as much as I pretty much immediately wanted to rewatch, it gets so brutal and harsh towards a particular episode/character's fate, which had me crawling out of my skin, that I'm not sure I'm quite up to it tbh.
It will probably happen though.

Needless to say I will be ALL OVER that ost!

Saw Annabelle Comes Home this morning, it had its moments. I’m sure horror used to be a lot more violent, this was basic teenage fluff with some interesting flashes. Personal favourites, a haunted reel to reel recorder and slightly haunted/ racist monkey toy

Also watched Summer of 84 last night. Very basic, mundane 80s murder mystery, enjoyable for the averageness of the cast (stranger things are all models and star power) and the Le Matos score was decent enough. I’m sure there’s better films out there just can’t seem to find them

For me, summer of 84 was fine, even if IT and stranger things and a lot of other stuff over the last few years sort of tapped that vein dry...and then the last act came along and raised that movie from “ok, fun” to “wow, what an ending!”

I watched Boar on Shudder. I was so excited to see in the credits that both John Jarratt & Bill Mosley were in it. Unfortunately I didn't care for the film much at all. It had some really cool practical effects with the boar but all of the CG was really terrible and the acting was sub par at best. I'd kill my daughter's boyfriend if he talked like that in front of me (I don't have a daughter, this is hypothetical).
