I have never seen The Fourth Man. Added to the list.
@deaf, did you like The Predator? I thought it was quite enjoyable, it has a some problematic moments in the film, in particular the finale has some questionable choices (a certain death happening so fast, you blink and you miss it). But over all it got way more shit than it deserved.
And speaking of films getting more shit than they deserve....
The monster spectacle on display here is beautiful. I had so much fun watching this film last night. After the credits rolled, a friend and I went to a bar, had a few beers and just geeked out over the stupid shit we just watched. I don't always have time to go out after watching a film and discuss it with some one, I miss that. Back to the film. I feel like this one is unfairly being criticized for the "human" parts of the film. This is a giant monster movie, stuff needs to be set up so we can get our giant set pieces. It sets out and accomplishes exactly what it's trying to do. It's not high art, it's a summer blockbuster. I don't think a lot of these critics have a seen more than one or two Godzilla films, most of them are dumb, poorly acted and boring until you get to the monster action. I just watched Godzilla Vs Destoroyah last week, widely considered one of the best Godzilla films. Guess what, it's boring as hell until we get to the big monster action in the last hour. Godzilla King of the Monsters is a dumb film, very dumb. The writing is bad, it feels like it went through too many drafts to get the dialog distilled down to the simplest lines. I was sure I was going to see 6 writers on the film (only two credited). There is just about every big budget summer blockbuster cliche possible in this one but it never takes itself too seriously and when you think it is they let you in on the joke. The CG is pretty incredible through out the entire film, most big CG spectacles have certain areas where you can tell they didn't put budget or time into (happens in Marvel movies all the time) but this one was impressive all the way through. King Ghidora looks so good, his serpent like movements close to the ground, coiling around Godzilla. And the sound design was unreal, this will put your home theater systems to the test when it comes out on home video. Bear McCreary's soundtrack was alright, he does some nice flourishes, neat little re-uses of the original them and some nice original moments too, these are kind of marred by some of the insanely generic cues he used during a lot of the dramatic moments. I had a blast watching it and hope people can lighten the hell up and enjoy it too. I can't wait to see what Adam Winguard does with Kong Vs Godzilla.
