I'm pretty sure Shudder used the same master as Blue Undergrounds Bluray from a few years ago. I have the blu and thought it was pretty good. It's an older master but one of the less offensive Italian scans.

Shudder is great guys, i'm friends with a childhood pal of the guy who started it so i get some inside scoops once in a while from him. The only issue i have with it, is that as a genre fan and a collector i own a lot fo the content they have haha, a situation i feel like a lot of us here are familiar with, but i love everything about their service.

I definitely own a lot of content they have on there but they have been killing it with their exclusives over the last year so I fully support them. At $5 a month it's an easy pill to swallow.

Deadwax was made for such a remarkably specific audience...namely us, I had a hard time recommending it to people that didn’t have this exact cross section of interests. Although it’s nice to know there are enough of us out there to keep us in horror vinyl for a while haha.

I only had time to squeeze in one film this weekend and per the wifes request we watched something more "modern"


Pulse/Kairo from 2001. I never really got into the whole J-Horror craze of the early 00's. I saw the original Ring and Ju-On. Found them both interesting and quite effective but due to the speed at which the US was buying and remaking them (terribly most of the time) I kind of stepped back and just shifted my focus elsewhere. That also happened to be around the time I was kind of an elitist snob who watched tons of old films I was buying from Criterion and looked down on a lot of modern stuff cause we all go through that stupid phase of our film education ;)

Well Pulse is an incredibly effective and creepy film. I really enjoyed it. It was not what I was expecting which was kind of The Ring but with computers. Instead I got a film about something that spreads through the net and causes people to "kill" themselves. Leaving only a burnt mark of their existence. The cast was pretty good, I really liked Harue and Kawashima, the way Kawashima floats through most of the film in a laid back, no idea whats going on way I found charming. I feel like who ever wrote this film was dealing with some dark demons, thoughts of depression, meaning of ones existence and what our existence as society. It's a little too long (by maybe 20 minutes) but overall I enjoyed it quite a bit. I look forward to checking out the new Arrow Video boxset of the Ring films and I may even pick up Dark Water from their next sale.

For me, Dark Water is the masterpiece of that era. Seeing it upon release in a cinema, I remember it being one of the most wrought, tense experiences I've had! No idea how it holds up today, as I've never revisited.

Yes, Dark Water was great. I have it on DVD from back then.

Dogman is an Italian film and is set in a very small rundown coastal town where people do no have a lot of money. One big strong idiot terrorizes the neighbourhood. And also abuses his 'friendship' with the small fragile and caring guy who has the dog trimming salon. It is a sad story and a bit bleak at times. With some terrific acting. Very atmospeheric. And some brilliantly cast dogs.

Thanks @bez, bleak sad stories are a tough sell for me. I'll add it to the watch list but it may take a while to get there.

Looks like Dark Water is definitely getting picked up in the next Arrow sale since you guys are all praising it.
