I had never seen the prowler before, but when they dropped the score I gave it a watch and was sad that I’d missed it for years, I love those early slashers man, there’s a strange quality about them that gets me. It reminded me of my bloody valentine a lot actually, one of my all time favorites and possibly the most underrated of the “Halloween” knock offs.

Long story short, it’s a great release from them, the type that feels like those old days of our labels here, when the releases were always something you had to explain to your non horror friends who wouldn’t ever understand why you’d buy them haha.

Not that I’m knocking the expansion and evolution of these labels, far from it, but those early days of the reissue game had something I miss now and then.

Well said, Hatter. And agreed on all fronts. Especially MBV!! Also, subject matter aside, do you think it could be the masks that make those two films seem similar to you?

...if I'd known that theyre was gonna be a condensed trilogy boxset, I might have gone for that, because I'm not sure when I'll actually spin 16 discs worth of LOTR soundtrack :P Box looks good

How is it scientifically possible that the scores for LOTR are actually longer than the actual films?

I think the masks have a lot to do with it, but even the tone, the film stock, the “it’s basically still aesthetically the 70s” small town vibe. I also think thematically, the idea of a killer coming back DECADES later, (or the suspicion of such, Triggered by the reinstatement of a long avoided holiday celebration, (graduation dance, Valentine’s Day dance)

Both films are also very claustrophobic (the mines, the ins and outs of the dorm building) while still also having a lot of open space in the small community.

I agree with you on this one @hatter, I found both of them pretty similar. I personally prefer MBV but The Prowler has some great kills in it.

Just picked up, for a mere 20 bucks, a copy of a combined Scream 1 and 2 soundtrack from Varese Sarabande. I never seen it before but the cover is pretty cool.
