So I did love Dune! Although I did not understand it all in the beginning. And I can't imagine this to be made by David Lynch. But it is so funny to see him in it. And those Twin Peaks characters :-)
And I loved the score! Also Sting. And captain Jean-Luc.

Seeing it on the big screen recently was fantastic. I also just got back from a 35mm screening of Jurassic Park, and no matter how many times I see that film it thrills me the way it did when I was a kid. Some films are nearly legitimately magic, and that’s one of them for me.

There is an expanded version disowned by Lynch that has more background information including a prologue of sorts, but I recommend the book instead.

Been an 80’s action type of weekend, and with the weather and the cold I’ve been mostly inside, So far since Friday it’s been:

Predator
Predator 2 (still not great, Busey still awesome though)
Commando (that score...my god, I may have to track down that wax, forgot how killer it is)
First blood
Rambo: First Blood pt 2
End of Days (not 80s, but it had been over a decade since I’d watched it and was obviously in an Arnold mood)

Up next for tomorrow: Rambo III to finish that off, and then back to Arnold I think with Conan, Terminator, and Running Man at the least, probably end up doing T2 also, which means I’ll probably cap off with True Lies depending on how much time I end up having to waste tomorrow.

Also did a double feature the other day of Wolfen and Silver Bullet (more awesome Busey) so at some point I imagine a follow up double set of American Werewolf and The Howing are in my future.

Drunken Master. This one is chock full of great fight scenes, plenty of laughs. So much fun. It makes me chuckle how many of the 70's era martial arts films literally just end after the big fight, they never actually care about the story they set up, just the pay off of the big showdown.

True lies is killer, every damn bit of it. Almost the swan song of that type of film.

Also totally with you on those 70s martial arts movies. I feel like a lot of pulp cinema from that era was not at all concerned with story. You see it in Italian horror all the time. Less so with gialli, but the supernatural stuff becomes about mood and atmosphere and effects and whatever loose plot it had gets thrown to the wolves.

I need to revisit Conan. That one has been a while. All the other Ahnuld ones I have seen in the past couple of years. True Lies is indeed a lot of fun. It reminds me about the headlines around the latest Schwarzenegger movies at that time. Each one was the most expensive movie made up to that point.

@Inksb Great selection of Jacky Chan flicks. I have not seen a lot of those of any. Maybe in two years after I have finished my Euro-gems quest :-)

Yesterday I thought I watched my 5th poliziottesco of the year. However I am not going to count it because it ended up being a heist movie. There is not a poliziotto in sight. Nonetheless, it was very enjoyable. Diamond heist in Rio de Janeiro starring Janet Leigh, Robert Hoffman and Klaus Kinski. The part where they are breaking into the safe was actually exciting.
Score by Ennio Morricone. Only available on CD as far as I know.

POLICE STORY

More Jackie Chan! This one was so much fun, again I've seen it but it was 10-15 years ago and my memory is fuzzy. I had recollections of some of the insane stunts but not much of the story. Not only does the movie have some of the most ridiculous stunts involving people being thrown through glass but it's genuinely funny as well. The funny isn't just Jackie's physical humor but the dialog and situations his character gets into surrounding his girl friend and woman he's protecting had me cracking up. The amount of 'glass' that was busted and people thrown through it during the mall scene is truly mind boggling, I don't know how any one didn't get hurt, some of it looked insanely thick. And the scene with the guy sliding down between the escalator rails made me cringe, it just looked so uncomfortable to do. Next up Police Story 2!

I did see that, the company that owns the films, Fortune Star, licensed them to Criterion and Eureka, they are fairly strict with what you can and can't do with their films. I'm expecting them to be the exact same transfers as the Eureka set, but if it has better special features I'll grab it as well.

Any here watching True Detective season 3? I watched the first episode last night and it's strange, it's like they took the criticism of S2 and said well S1 was really awesome lets just make that again. The problem with making S1 again is that it feels like some one immitating S1 rather than actually creating something that fits with S1 as a companion piece. Obviously this is just based off of one episode but it stuck out to me. I'll watch the season as it was well acted, beautifully shot and still entertaining.

Ill be watching td3 for sure. Hopefully they aren’t still living off the wonder of s1 in which we were permitted to witness Woody and Mcdonut actually do some acting

Two episodes into S3 and I pretty much love it. So far the actual plot machinations aren't particularly mind-blowing or original, but the suggestion of 'Satanic Panic' events to come is very promising - that's a damn rich vein for drama/horror for sure, and ever timely...

Oh, plus Ali & Dorf? Fucking KILLING it. (Even though Ali & Dorf sounds just like a mid 90s house DJ duo...)

@nathan definitely get on season 1 immediately. I say that as someone who has had S1 of The Deuce on his hardrive for the better part of a year and not watched a single episode. lol. Also your new avatar is throwing me off because I look at those rather than the name most of the time when seeing who's responding to stuff.
