Yesterday finished watching Killing Eve. Great show. Has anyone seen Homecoming? That one is next on the list.

Lost Highway on the big screen was brilliant. I forgot so much about that movie as it has been around 20 years ago that I watched it the first and only time. That tailgaiting scene is very funny. The biggest positive of seeing these older movies again in a theater is I that I pay better attention. At home my attention drifts to easy.
Anyways.

Now my final spaghetti western of the year. Number 52.

We watched the first five episodes yesterday. My girlfriend does not like the music :-)
The show is alright. I was expecting more suspense or something... Not sure what. I do like how it is made. And love the endtitle part (my girlfriends hates that part :-) ).
And although a lot of music does sound very familiar I find it hard to name the score. After we have watched all the episodes I am going back to them by myself to pay more attention to the first minute.

@bez once again insanely jealous of you seeing these Lynch films on the big screen. Wild At Heart was a film that I some how completely missed out on until last year. Holy hell did it blow me away. It's definitely near the mid to top of the Lynch filmography for me.

So I've been sick and laid up for the last 3-4 days, I've plowed through a ton of stuff. So I'm going to just throw it all up here.


One of Jackie's earlier films and one of his serious roles. Not an amazing film but good enough to recommend any one who likes 70's martial arts flicks


Five Element Ninjas. One of my favorite Shaw Bros flicks I've seen. Almost non stop action. It's completely absurd but the action is fantastic. I love seeing ultra violent films from this era, limbs being ripped off, cut off, blood spraying in vibrant red.

I haven't seen this in close to 20 years and I'm not even sure if I saw the entire thing. Holy hell did I love it. I've been watching episodes of the anime but this is a different beast. A loose retelling of the first 20 episodes roughly, it flies by and pretty much exists to show ridiculous fight scenes and gory deaths. It's a shame it has weird censoring.


Another one I've never seen. It's so much darker than I expected. Loved it.


Rutger being a badass cop for an hour and half. Yup it's fun.


I kind of loved all of this. It's not perfect but it was just the right kind of weird and interesting to keep me enthralled all the way through. Soundtrack was good too. I know it wasn't everyone's cup of tea but it just worked for me.

Split Second is one of the two best reluctant buddy cop vs aliens and/or demons films of the 1990s. Great flick.

The have been playing for 5 weeks. And this is the last week. No Dune.
They have been playing:
- Eraserhead (only 2 screenings)
- Blue Velvet
- David Lynch: The Art Life (only 3 screenings)
- The Elephant Man
- Lost Highway
- Mulholland Drive
- The Straight Story (only two screenings)
- Wild at Heart

There are a couple of single screenings at a later date:
- Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (30 January)
- Inland Empire (6 February)
- Blue Velvet Revisited (23 January)

Saturday I am going to see Mulholland Drive.
Straight Story I skipped because I have seen that a couple of times. First time on release in the theater after watching Fight Club. Nice double bill :-)
Also Elephant Man I missed. Wanted to go see it but did not find the right moment. It is a new 4K transfer that apparently looks and sounds brilliant.

I am looking forward to Inland Empire. I am taking a big bottle of beer with me and hope to be mesmerized :-)

But to answer your question: No, most likely no Lynch movies mid March...

For me yesterday was my first viewing of Wild at Heart. Loved it! Soundtrack is terrific. Did not expect the metal :-)
Also Willem Dafoe was insane.
Being immersed in the world of David Lynch for the past month has been a wonderful experience. For some reason I thought I knew more about him and his movies than I actually did.
As movie experiences go I have to put Eraserhead at number 1.
Followed by Blue Velvet.
Wild at Heart and Lost Highway are tied. After seeing Lost Highway last week I felt a bit underwhelmed during the first 30-45 minutes or so. I did not remember a lot from when I watched it some many years ago. I remembered how I loved that the score contains Rammstein :-) When the credits rolled the feelings from the first part were washed away.
Wild at Heart was a different experience. I was captivated from beginning to end. But after leaving the cinema and thinking about Lost Highway I could not pick a winner between them. Two different experiences but the same level of gratification.
I love the Straight Story but because it is such a different movie than the ones above I cannot place it on a list.
When I have seen Mulholland Drive again (cannot remember much from that one but I did watch it on DVD when it came out) and after Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me and Inland Empire I will see how everything ranks up for me.

It is funny to see a lot of re-occurring things in Lynch's work. Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Lost Highway all have scenes where peoples brains are visible or splattered about. In the museum you can also see a lot of images containing brain matter. The strange characters are everywhere. And there are a lot of prostitutes.

No joke, I’m dragging a friend of mine to see it, he’s “kinda curious.”

Personally I think that film’s bad reputation is an exaggeration. I love it, although I ask no one else to.

I have still never seen Dune. And just now looking for the best version I find this news:

Koch Media will release David Lynch's 'Dune' sometime in 2019.

They announced yesterday (via Facebook) that after two years of preparation they plan to release 'Dune' with never before seen picture and audio quality. They won't disclose much more at this time - only as much as: the sleeper WILL awake!

They stated that they plan a brand-new 4K-scan of the OCN and that they have licensed some new extras - for example the footage that Sean Young did while shooting of the movie was going on.

Lastly they state that their product will be an officially licensed product from Lionsgate.

That's good to know @bez, I've avoided Dune for years myself, although I have watched parts of it on TV over the years. I had a super long fan edit once but lost the hard drive it was on before I could watch it.

I used to love bluray.com but damn is there a lot of toxic energy over there. I still try to keep up to date on things but find myself contained only to a few threads most days if I post. I see that @nathanlurker is over there too.


I never imagined that in 2019 I'd be sitting here enjoying an Eli Roth film made for children that is easily his best since Hostel. What a weird and wild world we live in. This feels like the sequel that was meant for the Goosebumps movie. It's fun, playful, creative and has some really shitty CG at times. They must have fucked up some shots in the final 3rd of the film or just didn't have time on set with Kyle MacLachlan. His first reveal is a fully CG aged face, yet 3 minutes later he is in full aged make-up and looks great, 5 minutes later back to CG, then back to make-up. It's so strange. This was a fun film that plays well to all ages, although Roth still couldn't resist doing a fart joke here and there, he's still like a 12 year kid.

- first Lynch film.
- first PG-13 film (I believe I saw it before Red Dawn, both released in '84 with the new rating system).
- first Frank Herbert adaption.
- first introduction to expanded TV edits/versions (and Alan Smithee crediting).

The film fucked me up and sent me on an epic scifi spiral. I don't remember what year I started reading all the Herbert books, but it could not have been too long after watching Lynch's film, and I moved onto Asimov after that. Even as a diehard Herbert devotee now, I still forgive any and all sins Lynch committed when creating the film, as it was my gateway drug from an early age. You could have found me on the net using various pseudonyms from the Dune-iverse after I went through my first Tolkien phase.

I'm in the same boat. I 've never read Dune, I own the book in physical and digital formats but always look at it and it's length then set it aside for something shorter. I don't read nearly as much as I used to so my time is limited. Hell I only buy one comic series still and that's TMNT, I pulled out all my issues I haven't read over my vacation last week and realized it's been 13 months of back issues I hadn't touched. Shame on me.

Some of those martial arts films sound great, great to see FOTNS getting some love, such an enjoyable watch. Did you go for the subtitled version or the dub? I have fond memories of the dub ... Juliaaaaaaaaa.....!

But the subbed version reveals much more detail to the story.
I really really need to find the time to play the recent PS4 FOTNS game, it has got brilliant reviews and seems to play out a lot of classic moments from the TV show and film.

+1 to the Dune appreciation society, I first saw it, or rather parts of it, when I was somewhere in single digits and the Harkonnens scared the living shit out of me. The dude with the sewn eyes and the heart plugs :[


I got nearly half way through the book and loved it. I left it for too long and need to start from the beginning again. Gotta say I'm also looking forward to the Villeneuve films, which I've heard are now a going ahead.

Definitely the dub. It was the only version available to me but I would have went that way if I had the option because it was the way I remember it. I've heard good things about the game too, it's made by the team that makes the Yakuza games, which I haven't played either but heard good things as well. FOTNS game is currently $20 on Amazon in the US and I'm this close to pulling the trigger but I have about 4 other games in line in front of it and could direct those funds towards some record instead. Especially since I just started Red Dead 2, put 6 hours in already and have 7 % completion (there may be too much to do in this) and I have Dragon Quest XI which most people averaged a 60-70 hour play through and then there's post game content too. And that's not taking into account the Resident Evil 2 remake coming in a few weeks. Will some one just pay me to listen to music and play videogames all day so I can actually get some shit done.

Dune rules! Great to see all this chatter in here. I am actually rereading it right now for the first time since high school. Same copy, too! A friend and I began a few days before Christmas.


I love Lynch's Dune. I love Jodorowsky's Dune (what I wouldn't give for a chance to flip through one of those surviving sourcebooks). Heck, I even enjoyed the SyFy miniseries of Dune which was a much slower if more faithfull retelling. I never did see the follow up series though.

And count me amongst those excited for the Villeneuve adaptations. I've enjoyed all of his pictures so far and while BR2049 wasn't perfect, it treated the source material with reverence and respect and that gives me hope for Dune in his hands. I'd rather watch a film like BR2049 than most of the dross that comes to theaters masquerading as science fiction.

I just searched to see if we started a Jodorowsky's Dune thread, but did not find one. That documentary makes me love/hate him even more... "I am raping Herbert!", egads, but would also love to see a copy of that pre-production book. I really wish he could have worked with Moebius and the Herbert estate to move all that work into graphic novel format.

Regarding Lynch's Dune, even Herbert said: "I really am expecting much more of a David Lynch movie.":
