It's decent, but the song selection is not as good as the previous 2. Sound quality wise it's alright. The pressings of the distant worlds releases have been pretty mediocre. This is the first time one of them arrived with no obvious flaws.

Steve Powder wrote:@Dollarhyde that is some interesting stuff. I want to get into Toru Takemitsu since Trunk played it in the radio, want to recommend an album by him? It seems like good classical by the tracks I played.
I don't know a whole lot about him myself.
There is the film works LP I posted above. I also really like film works Vol 9, which has a nice variety of pieces on it.

This one isn't on discogs, and this is way! Over priced.

The batsonics are pretty good ! No defect on my copy, which I got straight from Mondo. it is the 2LP colored vinyl. I'm satisfied.

My Waxwork NotLD landed safely. At last.

Can't be bothered to post pic, but it sounds just fantastic- none of the excess surface noise which has plagued my purchases from them of late. The expansion of library cues (in film order, as far as I can tell) is great, though I won't be parting with my OG Varese any time soon ;-)

Also scored Drag Me to Hell from my local B&M store, look forward to giving that some deck time later on. While I was in there, also grabbed Trunk's Clangers reissue, and Yoshimura-san's sublime 'Music for Nine Postcards' first ever vinyl re-ish. Not cheap, but... essential.

There was an OG flesh for Frankenstein at my local shop for a while, I wonder if it’s still there. I remember it showed up right after i picked up those reissues from a few years back and was SHOCKED to see it in the stacks. Should have bought it. Never seen this one in the wild though so happy to have the reissue

I'll let you know later next week when volumes 1-10 should arrive in the post ;) . I also got Vol 8 and 7 with that copy of 5. I would say they are definitely different but still great, the more I learn about Masaru the more I realise how versatile he was. The one persistent thing seems to be an urge to drop jazzy flourishes in the mix on occasion Vol 5 seems to be more lyrical than the others with more 'songs' rather than scores, or suites. He can be very suspenseful and atmospheric, as well as roll with a swing and groove.

Aside from that Im still very much learning and getting familiar with his work.
Translating some of the titles and researching the film's helps.

Vol 8 repaets several themes from this other Masaru satoh compilation, which I also highly recommend. Particularly if you don't want to chase a 10 LP series
Link here, cheap too.
