Started watching Alice, Sweet Alice on Amazon, then saw the opening title:

This is the cut US reissue from '81, re-released to cash in on Brooke's fame following The Blue Lagoon.
Fuck, I hate cut prints!!

(And this kind of thing happens more and more often with Prime- I paid £3 to watch The Prestige the other day, and turned it off 10min in when I realised it was a 1:85 cropped print of 2:35 original. Fuck!!)

But with some seeking, I found full uncut print on Vimeo:

Quality isn't quite as crisp with this print, but fuckit- all is well again, back to watching this amaaazingly creepy late-70s slasher classic!

At least with the prestige it’s an OAR problem and not a content problem, (not that this is ok, it infirmaries me) but if I see an old horror movie for free on prime, I always assume it’s a terrible vhs transfer of a censored version, because it Almost always is.

I’ve been watching dracula a lot lately...which one you ask?...ALL OF THEM. So far In the last week I’ve done: kinski, palance, jourdan, oldman, langella, Marc warren (wow what a train wreck), Lee in the Franco version, and am waiting on the US blue of horror of dracula to come out next week before i do the hammer series, did Lugosi around Halloween so that one was, and always is, still fresh, as well as the assorted Chaney and carrardine sequels. Still need to do Schreck, (followed by shadow o’ of course) track down the Denholm Elliot bbc version which is one of the very few I’ve never seen, and probably throw in monster squad for good measure. I’m working of a somewhat objective and scholarly ranking of all the adaptations of the original novel based on plot and character fidelity, performances, how many characters have been combined or cut (poor Quincy)

Quick story about this film, which makes the young ScoJo sound like a friggin jerk?

Ok, so in the mid-80s this was due to be screened on BBC late one saturday night, it's first showing on UK television. I had spotted it in the tv guide and was massively looking forward to it (having prob seen it mentioned in Fango or something...)

Comes the day, I recall getting my vhs tape ready to record the broadcast but there was suddenly an announcement that they had decided not to show it that night, due to what had happened earlier that day in the north of England- a man had gone on an assault-rifle rampage (rare in the UK) in the town of Hungerford, murdering about a dozen townspeople.

And I just remember how PISSED I was that the BBC had pulled the film! I had a good old rant about it, my folks were prob thinking they had a right sociopath in their hands :-/

But I turned out JUST. FINE. THANKS!!

Let's make this even more interesting! I have 88 Films bluray which is supposedly uncut, has the title card Holy Terror but runs 107 minutes, exactly the same as the uncut vimeo run time. Great film.

I just saw a trailer for black Christmas coming to my local Alamo hosted by joe bob Briggs, night try and go. I was there to see Scrooged, which as many of you know is a major film in my circle and boy howdy was it tough to not just shout every line at the screen, I will say that since that movie has evolved into an inside joke in my crowd we we the only ones who laughed (uproariously) when Bob Mitchum says “gimme the beer” and everyone kind of looked at us.

Just double-checked... even though imdb/elsewhere state that Holy Terror version is cut, the one on Amazon is not! Same runtime as A,SA and you're 88 blu. So it's the full version. I take it all back, Amazon! (still confused as to how Holy Terror version turns out to be uncut, but there you go. Can't find any further elucidation online... maybe your blu has some intel, @inky? Weird that they have the version without the A,SA title card- or indeed the original 'Communion' for that matter. Maybe the blu/current hi-def transfer used on amazon is a 'composite' print from surviving elements or summat?)

Also I was just scanning the above posts and realized that when talking about OAR I said it “infirmaries me” because apparently my phone decided that when I tried to type “infuriates”....

I'll have to take a look at the blu, I have a week off come Xmas so I'll take some time to flip through the special features, I'll double check the title card too, I know it didn't say Alice Sweet Alice as I went and looked it up and it was one of the alternate titles, I think it was Holy Terror but maybe it was Communion and I'm remembering it incorrectly. It could very well be a composite print they used for the 88 blu, it's a bit worn and rough, definitely taken from a print and not OCN. Supposedly, and this has been the rumor for about 2 years now, Warner is actually working on restoring it from their archive and that if and when it comes out will be the best looking version.

Had a little session catching up on some music docs, seems there are a ton of them hidden on prime. Starting with one I heard a lot about.

I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW about two mentally challenged adult Tiffany obsessives? Queasy but mostly just sad. I know that lots of folks probably just find this hilarious. They've definitely checked their humanity/empathy at the door if so.

CASSETTE: A DOC MIXTAPE - Fun! Beautiful juxtaposition of nerd/nostalgia tapehead culture with the highly dispassionate 88 year old Dutch inventor of the format for Phillips in 1962.

and now queuing up BLACKHEARTS about three death metal fans' journey to Norway/their mecca.
