They are proving rather mysterious at the moment. It seems to be ordered by films rather than composers, I think, chronologically. I think it covers about 40 films. The last one in the set is a selection from Yuji ohno's score for the Inugamis. I recognise a few composer's by face. Yuji, Masoru and Toru takemitsu, of whom it features music from the score of 'The face of another'. Now on my to see list. It's a great piece of music which I had been searching for and was happy to find it here. Has this lovely German waltz segment in it.

Heya Matt - you wouldn't be a doll and point me to discogs listings for those box sets would you please? I believe them to be In My Area of Special Intetest ;)

@scojo

They are not on discogs, part of the reason they are proving so cryptic. I will try and take some photos later.

Here are the cat codes.

SJX 2151-5
SJX 2156-60

They are both on Victor.

There are copies on eBay for ridiculous prices, do not pay this crazy money for them.

I got both for around £50 in EX condition.
I've seen one box set go for 1000 yen on yahoo auctions.

I would like to rip them if I have time, we will see.

Thanks baws- if I knew what to look for I'd put these on my hit list for sure. Are there any English keywords or do I need to search in Japanese?

Wondering whether Kwaidan is represented on either set, or indeed any other Kobayashi/Takemitsu shizzle.

October is off to a fantastic start:

Very happy to pick up a numbered copy of DoD from Amoeba. Also, a Howarth warm-up for the 18th! This recording is from a live concert he performed here in Portland after a screening of Halloween III in October 2014.

Good lord @deaf, those do look like tasty additions to the (turn)table... didn't even know that live Howarth album was a thing. Investigation needed :)

I happened to be in Cologne, Germany last week for work and snuck into my favourite record shop there - Parallel Schallplatten on Brabanter Strasse - before the show I was supposed to be attending. As I was in Germany of course I went to the Krautrock section, browsed some Tangerine Dream LPs and, of course, soundtracks. Came out with a nice little haul of both originals and re-issues. Fairly priced too: around 120 Euros for the lot.

Good haul, Spun!

I was in Cologne for RSD this year, I would say the city has probably the best offer regarding record shops in Germany (except for maybe Berlin, but in Cologne the density is much higher - I think around Parallel Schallplatten there are at least 5 other record stores within walking distance).

Nice one- I really like Köln, spent a fair bit of time there in my younger days.

Those are both v.underrated TD scores.

@ScoJo - need to listen again, but one of those TG scores made a much bigger impression on me than the other (which veered into almost muzak at times).

The Eno & Cluster album and the Klaus Schulze Body Love are both knock outs.... had heard they were great for ages so couldn't resist getting OG's for both (the former's sleeve is a little tatty at the edges - looks like it was a library copy going by a sticker on the reverse - but the vinyl is remarkably clean). Also the Morricone 'Cop Killer' album (the movie with John Lydon and Harvey Keitel) is predictably great too... plenty of tension building tracks that mirror his work in the giallo genre.

Great to find interesting record stores in a foreign city.

Just under £100 quid for the lot, great deal from my friendly neighborhood soundtrack stall guy!
Finally plumped for the DW Maniac (lets face it, I'll never throw down the big ££s for the Varese OG), picked up a n.mint spare Shining, similarly RotLD, 2x early Herrmanns, a classic 80s Goldsmith and finally landed that big Shark without losing an arm and a leg!
Happy days.

It's no secret that I'm a huge Eno fan, but good for you and glad to hear it all the same. Gonna give mine a spin right now.

Hmmm, Eno has come up in conversation a lot for me these past few days...guess I’ll take the hint and stroll my way to work with some “here come the warm jets”
