ScoJo wrote:Not sure exactly what I was expecting of this - especially since the sleeve notes by Lo Duca suggest it's a reworking of his original score, this sounds nothing like it to my ears! So, a completely different score for the film. Interesting. Glad it picked it up in any event, and also very glad that I have the original score.

Enjoying it so far, the first track/overture really reminds me of the theme from Masters of Horror! And of course Humphreys sleeve art is flawless.

EDIT* Aha...half way through Side B and I'm hearing cues that I recognise. Nice.
ohhh wonderful...
this means I wont be happy now till I find myself an original VS
I can't lie Tim - you shouldn't be happy 'til you score it! ;)

@Nathan - Nice spins. How is Red Dawn? That is a Poledouris I do not have in my collection. I think I will track down a copy. Also, I felt that Goblin album was a really nice surprise.

@Nathan: nice spins indeed!

Thanks to @ScoJo for getting me this:

Hopefully next weekend I am showing TCM to my girlfriend's son. He has never seen it. I was thinking of watching Puppet Master: the Littlest Reich after TCM because I haven't seen that one. Anyone have a better idea of a double bill with TCM?

Yep - TCM2!!

Nothing against PM:TLR though. Fun film. But the contrast between TCM and TCM2 is delicious and there's much needed laughs after the brutal onslaught ;)

To be honest I cannot remember TCM2. Good idea!
edit - I just now read some more about TCM2. I am going for the TCM double bill!

I'm pretty darned chuffed with my upgrade Varese copy - especially since I goofily ordered is after selling my n.mint Celine!
But turns out the seller underplayed the vinyl condition (pretty much flawless) and overplayed the sleeve condition (it's closer to Ex). All in all, I'm a very happy camper.

Having also moved on my Mondo 2xLP which I think only ever had one spin, I'm cool with listening to the expanded digital when I'm in the mood for dialogue. Otherwise, I believe I have now made room nicely for whatever DW have up their seasonal sleeve :D

Nice! I was very disappointed not all the original sleeves fit in the new DW slipcase. It would have been so cool to showcase them in it.

TCM 1: grueling, intense, surreal, gritty masterpiece that can’t be disuputed..but...

TCM 2: completely insane gonzo Grand Guignol carnival that almost gives evil dead 2 a run for its money on greatest tongue in cheek horror ever made

Yep, that about covers it. The Tobe/Canon days are some of the strangest in the analls of moviemaking.
And I fucking love it. The insanity that Tobe was able to bring to us with TC2 and Lifeforce has made my life better. I know people like to crap all over Invaders From Mars but I think it's a fun little film with some wild practical effects.

@Dollar - Wow, Matt, nicely done on that New TV Sound Orchestra LP. Is that something like a "third album compilation"? I have had no luck finding that one, and I really enjoy the first two that I have. I always frown at the copy up for sale on discogs from inicenter, who prices all their albums astronomically.

This record sounds un-frikkin real...I will no doubt be banging on about this release at length, wherever I'm allowed, but for now (and just as I flip to Side B...) I will just say that the mastering and pressing of this record is blowing my goddam head off. It's like you're in the room with the musicians, in 1971. And I don't think the fact that the music is WORLD DESTROYING is hurting at all either.

Testify!!

I was already going to buy this but now I'm running (figuratively) to the store (internet) to buy it. This week has already been expensive enough but I guess I'm going to be adding to that.

@Scojo

You got me all giddy, already had a dispatched email from Norman's. Can't wait to get home!

@ deaf
It's definitely a comp of sorts, I don't know if it belongs to a certain series, I don't think so.

what confuses me is what songs are covers or aren't. To my knowledge all the stuff from the detective brothers ost is from the og ost, but other songs I know are covers from other shows. Either way there are a few absolute bangers on it :). Also I'm pretty sure it's all by a certain Mr. Katsuhisa Hattori.

Definitely going to pick up those two other New TV Sound orchestra LPs, I've noted your praise of them a couple of times now.

There are actually alot of similar type LP's that seem like comps of TV and movie OSTs, and also there seem to be countless, presumably, pseudonym alias orchestras/bands all over the shop. It all reminds me a little of the library scene in that respect, for example I'm still not sure who the Mystery Kindaichi band are :D
