I love how you gave Forest Gump an F-
Already failing, just failing a little below the standard of failing.

@ScoJo, I understand all of the criticism you have for Baby Driver. It's not a perfect movie, it has tons of flaws, I just found it incredibly entertaining. I have never liked Spacey and feel he's turning in his standard Spacey performance here, I could have done with out him being in the film altogether.

I had an actual Sunday at home and instead of doing constructive work around my house I opted to watch three movies and play some videogames.

This was quite good. I like Leigh Whannell, his writing while not amazing usually is pretty entertaining. I've grown quite fond of the Insidious films especially 1 &2 even though I wrote them off on their initial release. Leigh first directing feature which was Insidious 3 had some good moments, felt very much like some one directing their first film. Well Upgrade he comes out swinging and damn does he do a good job. The story is good, while not wholly original in concept, he has some flourishes that keep it fresh. The action is a lot of fun, not quite what I expected and the moments of extreme violence popped. If you're a fan of sci-fi films check this one out.

I just got 88 Films new bluray of this and boy is it a mighty fine package. The PQ and AQ of the film are top notch. A red gloved giallo. One of Lenzi's better films IMO. And we all know the score is fantastic by Nicolai. One minor gripe was the bluray menu uses an audio clip of the score that distorts, really bad, no clue as to why they chose to do that.

This was an interesting film that came up on two podcasts for me with in a week, even though one of those podcasts was an episode from two months prior. This one is short, a little uncomfortable and trying to say something about social media. For me the real draw to this film was an opening scene with Jeremy Gardner (star and director of The Battery) who turns in easily his best performance of his acting career and then the always incredible Larry Fessenden joins the film about half way through and actually has a meaty role instead a glorified cameo like he's been doing for the better part of the last decade. I love the guy and it's great to see him have a good role. The overall concept of the film is fairly interesting, I knew a few people kind of like the main character in art school and could see them trying to do something like this had the technology existed at the time, although maybe not to the extreme that this is taken.

Heh. I too am with Jay all the way. However...John Waters' sequel 'Gump Happens' is a glimmering work of crystaline beauty for the ages.

I don't know why you posted a picture of Melanie Griffith dressed up as Daryl Hannah in a John Woo film, but I appreciate the sentiment.

Total crime. In fact, I can't stand most menu audio loops at all, unless they are seamless (and most certainly are not!). I would prefer no audio or something very ambient/minimal.

@inksb - Thank you for the rec on Upgrade. Added to the watch list.

Enjoying the passionate discussion in here. ;) I haven't seen Baby Driver or Ant-Man.

Guys, I think ScoJo has had some sort of accident down in the silly putty mines. We should probably call somebody.

I suggest we let him be. Sometimes a person simply has to go through this so he can come out even stronger.

FREEWAY 2
Oh jesu.... THAT film!

Vincent Gallo. Is all I'm saying. Right??

Matthew Bright is a very unheralded talent for sure. From his involvement in the completely insane Forbidden Zone, to the first Freeway (a classic!) to his Bundy (good) and weird take on bloodsuckers in Modern Vampires, I'll watch anything he does. (He wrote the much-loved 90s Full Moon flick Dark Angel: The Ascent which I'm pretty keen to check out).

But Freeway 2... man, that film had me talking about it for days!

Here's the imdb plot for Modern Vampires:

A borderline fascistic Dr. Van Helsing unwittingly hires crack smoking gang-bangers to pursue the decadent vampires who secretly control Hollywood and the United States.

Oh, and he directed Tip Toes. You know- that Mconaghey flick where Gary Oldman PLAYS A DWARF??!!! :-O
I didn't really comment on this film as it took me three sittings to finally finish, well because I like to put movies on at 1 AM and think I'll finish them, instead falling asleep 30-45 minutes into it. It's truly insane, it might be one of the most abrasive films I've ever watched. I didn't like it at all but it was fascinating to watch it all unfold. And Vincent Gallo...that was something else. I'm curious how many times White Girl was said through out the film. And the whole bulimic dinner party in the early section was so strange. I don't think I've seen any of the Matthew Bright films you listed before but I'm curious to check them out.

@inks- 'insane' just about covers it, as far as anything that Matthew Bright is involved in.

I mean, he WAS once a Mystic Knight after all...

^ How is The Gate? Is it the 1987 one with Stephen Dorff (I did a quick iMDB search because I have no idea)?

The Gate is great! Low budget, stop motion-tastic super 80s horror fantasy.
Quite a cult favourite, yes young cast including li'l Stevie Dorff.

I'm on 3rd film of a 'kid-horror' triple bill today:

Just finished- end title reads 'IT - Chapter One'.

Always thought it was a really nice, clever touch saving that until the end.

Can't friggin wait for Chapter Two!

Nice run, ScoJ. I also enjoy The Gate quite a bit going back to my (relative) youth. It was a pleasant surprise; looking forward to chapter two. I've still never seen Something Wicked...
