Great flick ScoJo. And it reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask my fellow STBCers since the Manhunter score was announced. What movies fit into the Manhunter/To Live and Die in LA mold for you? Namely, films that have a very slick 80s sheen (though they needn't be 80s films) and presumably the scores or soundtracks to match. Usually thrillers, but occasionally action or genre pieces, they can be dark, hot, and/or wet. Not noir with a capital N, but pretty dark thematically. Thief would definitely fit the bill for me. Maybe 8 Million Ways To Die as well? Though I haven't seen that in a bit. Anyway, what springs to mind for all of you?

To live and die in LA is a movie I have to consciously remind myself isn’t Michael Mann, it’s so reminiscent of his style I’m sure friedkin was doing it intentionally.

I might put nighthawks in there actually now that I’m thinking about it. Might not fit the bill exactly, but there’s elements for sure.

Although that doesn't help in terms of what you haven’t seen :)

NIghthawks does have some elements of this to be certain. I hadn't really thought of that because I usually put it in the Hard Boiled category (with Sharkey's Machine et al) that probably only exists in my head.

I suggest a soup-to-nuts re-watch of all seasons of Miami Vice, jefe. But then, I pretty much suggest that, to everyone and anyone, on a daily basis.

Lamberto Bava's Monster Shark/Devilfish/Shark (Rosso Nell'Oceano)/what ever you want to call this film, it has too many titles. This was a fun Italian Jaws rip-off. It's a little slow and longer than I would have liked but overall I had a good time, the monster effects were way better than The Great Alligator (another Jaws ripoff) and it has the always enjoyable Michael Sopkiw. Not Bava's best but a decent effort. If you like Italian rip-off cinema then give this one a go. Also it has a good score from Fabio Frizzi.

Yes, it was at Fantasia.
It was great ! It's in line with the style of Beyond the Black Rainbow, with slow pacing and intense aura, but it plays with more traditional mechanics from revenge movie. so it's a little bit more ''down to earth'' than BTBR, but it's still very surreal.

The music was HEAVY. it's Johann Johannsson doing heavy Sunn O))) type drone, and some parts have synth waves that made me think of Blade Runner 2049, in how it's close to sound design rather than catchy musical themes. there's also a main ''love'' theme that quite beautiful and closer to what you'd expect from Johann Johannsson, but it fits in that mold of heavy synth/drone aura.

The movie's official release is in September, if I'm not mistaken, and I might go back to see it again. Some dialogue sounded muffled, some characters had distorted voices, so I didnt catch everything that was said. Want to go back and pay attention on those bits of dialogue.

I think you might know my reverence for that particular show as well as its score and soundtrack, but, if not, let's just say it's at peak Fletch levels. I own the blu-ray edition of the show and about seven different legit (and gray) releases of the score/soundtrack.

We sure do! This is one I avoided for years because I couldn't' for the life of me understand why I needed a sequel to Fright Night. Well after realizing Tommy Lee Wallace was the director I gave it a chance and boy is it a fun one. It's not as good as the first but a great sequel with lots of crazy practical effects.

I have a bootleg bluray some one shared the source files with me for and burned my own copy along with making my own artwork. It does the job until some one actually releases a legit blu in the US.

@Nathan thanks for that review of Mandy, I've been dying to see it and can't wait. The score sounds like it's exactly what I want from it.

I'm not sure, but I don't think there is a 'legit' blu-ray of this anywhere. Last I checked (over a year ago now), no one even seemed sure who the true rights holder(s) was. An odd one to be certain.

I think you are right, funny thing is, there is avery nice HD master that was made for broadcast a number of years ago, and someone slapped that on a disc thats been floating around, so someone had access to it to make the broadcast master, but then things seem to get real wonky after that.
