Has been a busy month. Giving myself the morning off. Feel the need for a serious, weighty movie which will address the human condition. A Tarkovsky. A Haneke. A Kurosawa.

Nah!!

I still need to watch Lost River.

Funny story about Hell Comes to Frogtown. A friend of mine is a huge fan. Talked the movie up for ages. He ended up buying me a DVD of it from FYE one time and it sat on my shelf for years. Well I decided to watch it one day, put the DVD in the player and hit play, it was a VHS ripped and put on DVD with burnt in Japanese subs in 4:3 format. It promptly got turned off and I still haven't watched it. I should probably just buy Arrows bluray.

Tonight's viewing will be Rolling Thunder. I can't wait, it looks like it's fantastic.

Frogtown is...kindof gobsmacking. Rolling Thunder is amazing. Nice timing too-screenwriter Schrader's new film has been getting raves...'a 21st century Taxi Driver'

Frogtown is a uniques kind of fun. Rolling Thunder, on the other hand...Rolling Thunder is one of my very favorite exploitation films. Really great stuff.

The Sentinel is top notch stuff. And such a great cast of background characters, young Chris Sarandan, Christopher Walken and Jeff Goldblum!

@Hatter/Inksb: Yeah, I enjoyed it. The production value incl. the cast made it look like Rosemary‘s Baby but the way it was told and some truly weird ideas made it feel more like an Italian „re-interpretation“ of said film.

@Deaf: Need to watch this one but guess it‘s much less of an „entertaining“ experience than something like The Sentinel.

Just when you think you've already seen every good movie from the 90s, you find another gem. This is a big one too, but somehow I never saw it before last night. 10/10 will watch again :)

The music Philip Glass and Burkhard Dallwitz composed was really beautiful.

The movie was The Truman show. How the hell did I miss this?

Exactly. The film really shocked me at one point. I went into it without any spoilers, and that was probably for the best. It felt very heavy in tone and was slow-burning for the most part, but the two hours passed quickly. Some of the imagery has really stuck in my head. The score was suitably creepy, and feels like it serviced the film quite well. I will probably give it a standalone listen here soon. Still not sure what make of the entire effort though... it got some great reactions out of me though.

Heh. Today I was on a filming field trip with 58 primary school children, and a genuinely whip-smart, awesome bunch they were. Not the nightmare I was expecting ... although they did all go completely feral by about the 2nd kilometre of the trek- all carrying huge sticks, burnt coal smeared across their cheeks, sorting out the weakest for quick elimination/humiliation/devouring...

Annnyway, point is I found myself walking along with a wee Polish lad who seemed very keen on his movies and I'd heard him mention J5: FK to his teacher so I asked what he thought of it. He said it was 'okay' and asked which ones I liked. I said 'the first one, half of the 2nd one, the 3rd sucked and I hated JW. Why didn't I like it, he asked curiously. I said 'the characters were awful, I hated them, they had no development and were at best uninteresting, at worst grating.' Without a breath he agreed - 'yes, the character development in the new ones hasn't been good. But you know...' he added, 'dinosaurs!!'

And at this I conceded, and thanked him for putting an old fucker straight.

@ Deaf : thanks for sharing your thoughts on Hereditary. We are going to see it on Sunday.

@Mateo and ScoJo: I actually really like JW from 2015. It felt like an amusement park ride at that time. That was enough for me. Did not expect anything more. I was hoping a similar feeling during JW:FK, but I was very disappointed. Too much (many?) irritating elements in it.

The real question that needs to be asked about JWFK, does Bryce Dallas Howard actually take off her high heels? Seriously who the fuck would run through the jungle wearing heels.
